Amazing Place - what a view!!!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Apr 2018
It's about a ten minutes walk uphill through the bush to this place, but it is really worth it. Suzanna takes your luggage and supplies up the hill on the quad bike, and when you get up there, the view from all of the rooms is outstanding. Dave has built the place himself from a lot of recycled materials. but you wouldn't know it; it all looks really good. There's a very well equipped kitchen and a lovely warm lounge with a cozy fire.Areaaly great place to stay on the Coast. And they're great hosts!

The view on the ocean, the spacious terrace and common lounge and the lovely, caring hosts make this accommodation a real gemstone!

We had a fabulous and relaxing time here after some exhausting days on the Abel Tasman track.

Probably the most memorable stay of our NZ trip!

Our family trip around the West Coast was made complete with this amazing lodge. On new years eve, the owner, Dave, took us down to the beach where we lit a bonfire while watching the majestic sunset. The lodge itself is immaculate and the owners are very approachable and friendly. It is a great place to meet new people or to soak in the beauty of the west coast. A must do.

Room tip: The ones on southern side of the lodge offer the best views, and are closet to the (clean) toilets.

For people who like to stay in tranquil places with great views (on the Tasman sea), this might be one of the best places of the west coast. If you're lucky, you might even spot some dolphins.

We spent 2 nights in this place, and had a nice stay.

Unique and quiet spot. Kind attentive hosts. Lovely attention to detail such as painted floors. The kitchen was fully equipped, everything labelled and in its place. Our room was spacious, bed comfortable.

My teenage children and I only stayed one night at the Old Slaughterhouse, but could have easily stayed longer. Charming hosts, with great stories to tell. A well thought out lodge with everything travellers need. Highly recommended.
