Beautiful lodge with a beautiful setting

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Feb 2018
Our family trip around the West Coast was made complete with this amazing lodge. On new years eve, the owner, Dave, took us down to the beach where we lit a bonfire while watching the majestic sunset. The lodge itself is immaculate and the owners are very approachable and friendly. It is a great place to meet new people or to soak in the beauty of the west coast. A must do.
Date of stay: December 2017
Room Tip: The ones on southern side of the lodge offer the best views, and are closet to the (clean) toilets.

For people who like to stay in tranquil places with great views (on the Tasman sea), this might be one of the best places of the west coast. If you're lucky, you might even spot some dolphins.

We spent 2 nights in this place, and had a nice stay.

Unique and quiet spot. Kind attentive hosts. Lovely attention to detail such as painted floors. The kitchen was fully equipped, everything labelled and in its place. Our room was spacious, bed comfortable.

My teenage children and I only stayed one night at the Old Slaughterhouse, but could have easily stayed longer. Charming hosts, with great stories to tell. A well thought out lodge with everything travellers need. Highly recommended.

This is the best place we have stayed at in NZ. Of course the view is lovely, but that is NZ. The hosts are lovely people, attentive, kind and generous to their guests. The kitchen/lounge room is so relaxing and comfortable and kept warm with a wood burner. A perfect base for this part of the west coast.

This is an exceptional hostel, located up the hill, with a fab view of the Tasman Sea. The rooms are beautiful, ours with a porch and chair, to sit and watch the sea brighten the next morming. The kitchen and common areas huge, the lay out very roomy. Its five tons of wood carted up the side of a mountain, and made available to us for relaxation and recharging. I still dream of coming back, and my love of New Zealand are from people like our host and hostess.
