“A perfect weekend get away”
Reviewed 2 February 2015 for a stay in January 2015

I booked Birchwood Lodge as a wee surprise for my girlfriend to cheer her up after the return to work January blues. I couldn't have asked for a better place. With recent snow fall I had been keeping an eye on the road conditions the whole week before we set off from Glasgow, but the drive up was pleasantly uneventful. We arrived at the lodge in good time, thanks to the directions provide by Alison, found the key, unloaded the car and we where in for the night. Alison had left wine, and shortbread out for us, and there was milk in the fridge, a really lovely touch. We fired up the various heaters dotted about the lodge and it was lovely and toasty warm in no time. The lodge has everything you would need, a small but well equipped kitchen, central music system, WiFi, Sky-TV, and of course the Sauna and Hot Tub. The weather wasn't great the night of our arrival with high winds and flurries of snow, so we decided not to brave the hot tub that night, but curled up together on the comfortable couch, after a steak dinner, and a bottle of champagne :-) Heaven. The wind was howling around outside but we were cosy and warm in the lodge.

The next day we made a packed lunch and ventured out to explore the area. The private beach was lovely with its own little gazebo and the canoes. The scenery was spectacular with snow capped peaks and the glistening Loch, just a little bracing in the biting wind. So we set off along the road to Kenmore. It's approximately 3.7miles along the Loch from the lodge, which was about an hour an a half walk, at a leisurely pace. Kenmore is lovely, lots of tastefully in-keeping holiday lodges and cottages mixed with the genuine article. We stopped to grab a photo on the Famous Kenmore Bridge, with the Loch and snow capped hills behind, then headed into the warmth of the Kenmore Inn for a few drinks by the fire. The Kenmore Inn is stated to be the Oldest Inn in Scotland and has an original poem hand written by Robert Burns behind a glass pane above the fire. We finished our drinks and set off on the walk back to the lodge (which seemed a lot faster on the way back).

After our long walk the first thing we wanted to do was jump in the sauna and relax. We popped open a bottle of Prosseco and got the sauna up to temperature. Having the music system piped into the sauna was excellent. We just sat in the lovely heat and relaxed. Next we wanted to try the hot tub. The wind had started to pick up again, but the hot tub is sheltered in its little out house so we decided to give it a go. After a brisk run across the deck and lawn we got the cover off the tub and stepped in. The 40 degree heat we very welcome :-) Once we'd worked out the controls and got all the bubbles and jets going it was sheer bliss. The wind was gusting around outside in below zero temperatures, but we were toasty warm and sheltered in our little relaxation bubble. What an experience. After the hot tub we dried off and snuggled up on the couch again to watch a few programs before heading to the most comfortable bed in the world. The wind was insane that night but in the lodge but we were oblivious too it and both slept like logs.

I was a real wrench to pack up and head off the next morning. We'd both loved our time there and were dying for another shot in the hot tub, but had to get back. The drive back to Glasgow, in daylight this time, was lovely. We decide to head along to Tarbert and down the road passed Loch Lomond. The snowy scenery was amazing. All in all and amazing few days.

We are definitely coming back :-)

Thanks very much for your review. I'm delighted the weather wasn't too wild for you - but a wee touch of snow does make the mountains even more spectacular. I'm really glad you enjoyed Birchwood so much and I'd be delighted to welcome you back again. Ali :o)

“Just Perfect”
Reviewed 16 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Priceless Week at Birchwood Lodge celebrating our 1st Wedding Anniversary It was a total getaway, with a home from home feeling with everything you need even a Canadian canoe which we enjoyed from the private beach. The sauna and hot tub was brilliant and we made full use of them. Our stay was that good we did not want to leave. Would love to return :-)

“Perfect getaway with everything included you could need”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Perfect break for a couple, we took our four month old baby and there was ample room for his Moses basket in the bedroom, the shortbread and wine on arrival was nice, beautiful scenery and the hot tub was great for relaxing after a long journey, well worth the money if you want to treat yourself

“Simply stunning in every way”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We had a four night stay at Birchwood and it had been a long time coming having booked it some 7 months before our stay. After a difficult couple of years for various reasons, the lodge proved to be the perfect getaway. You will not tire of the hot tub and the Sonos sound system is a cracking bit of kit. Other than a short trip to Glasgow this was my first 'proper' trip to Scotland and this country really his a true beauty to behold. The owner Ali and her family were in residence whilst we were at the lodge, and a warmer welcome we couldn't have had. Loch Tay itself is quite and during our stay we were able to get up close and personal with this water and with the help of Ali and her boys we took away a 'never to forget' experience of this overwhelmingly beautiful loch.

I suspect we'll be returning to Scotland in the future!
