Delightful and inspiring, a visit to Fattoria La Vialla is a must for italophiles, foodies, oenophiles and bird watchers alike. We spent a week in May in one of their stone farmhouses eating, birdwatching, hiking, and learning about this incredible farm. They offer tours in English, German and Dutch which includes tasting their award-winning biodynamic and organic wines. For a special experience, booking for lunch at the beautifully curated museum on the premises is highly recommended. We had a guided tour of the museum and learned about the history of agricultural life in this corner of Tuscany followed by a fantastic multiple-course meal featuring homemade pasta – it felt like we were in someone’s home. The setting is truly peaceful and sublime and the landscape is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise as well, within minutes of our arrival we saw redstarts and hoopoes! I loved their wines, especially the unfiltered La Brumosa and Barricato Bianco, and I also quickly got used to finishing a meal with some vin santo or grappa. My husband and I went with our 60-something parents and we also saw young families also enjoying the fattoria, so there really is something for everyone, even if you are just stopping in for an espresso, a grape juice, or to buy some pecorino, wine and olive oil from their bottega. Having been there this past May and the July before, we cannot wait to return and at least in the meantime we can now order their products in the USA and remember the wonderful memories we made there with each taste...
