I cannot say enough about how lovely this house was to stay in. The cottage was fantastic. Roomy and comfortable. The photos do not do it justice. The kitchen had everything we could need. Wifi was patchy in the house but worked great outside where we spent most of our time.
The pool and garden were so relaxing. Another couple were in the pavilion but we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. So much privacy and space. The proximity to Gibbs Beach was great. It really is just across the road and the most beautiful beach. Snorkeling was excellent. Cordell and Qwenda the house staff were amazing. Helpful and went out of the way to make our stay great as did the gardener (sorry I forgot his name) and Peter the guard.
We used the yellow and Blue busses as our main way to get around the island and the odd taxi for airport run and to go to the south to go surfing. The buses are not for the faint of heart but a great way to get to Holetown and Speightstown. Both great places to eat. Bombas was walking distance and great food and the place across the road from Bombas was good but cannot remember the name. Would love to go back some day. Thank you to you all and Alison for her support.
We found Osborne Cottage after Gibbes Bay Inn (where we had stayed several times and which we dearly loved) was demolished. We were looking for a two bed self catering rental very close to Gibbes beach that had daily maid service and the potential for extra staff assistance (cooking and babysitting). We had a great holiday at Osborne Cottage and would recommend it.
The cottages are in the garden of the main house. The main house does not appear to be rented, but there is the Pavilion (above the garage) and then a little block of what appear to have initially been intended as three separate guest suites. These now operate as two units, a two bed unit (which we rented) and a one bed unit which may be joined together into a three bed unit. The layout is a little eccentric - to get from the main bedroom to the kitchen in the two bed configuration you need to walk through the other bedroom. During our stay the one bed unit was empty (apart from on the first night) - I think it might feel a little cosy if two different parties were in residence at the same time, especially if one has children (our apologies to our first night neighbours for our jet-lagged toddlers...).
The cottages are in great condition and very well equipped. There is a swimming pool almost immediately outside the cottages which is always shaded by palm trees so the water's a little cool - it's not really large enough to swim lengths, but perfectly fine to splash about it. We normally swam in the larger pool closer to the main house where there was less shade but the water was warmer (the main house was also empty during our stay). The gardens are beautiful. When we stayed the wifi didn't extend to the cottages, although could easily be picked up nearer the main house.
The staff onsite were all lovely. The housekeeper makes an excellent rum punch, and is happy to provide local meals for additional payment. The maid, gardener and night watchman were all very friendly and helpful. The owner's representative was very efficient and straightforward to deal with.
We'd certainly go back!
