We stayed one night in Bellingham as I had a running competition near by, so wanted a bit of relaxation in pleasant surroundings afterwards. Sadly, this did not happen and we were very disappointed by Riverdale Hall.
Firstly, we had booked a table for the evening meal when we booked the room. However, three days before our visit we had a phone call saying the booking should not have been taken as there was a large birthday party that night. They also said we would be staying in a quieter part of the hotel. The lack of food being served was pretty inconvenient as we had little choice when booking elsewhere.
When we arrived at the hotel we were told we were in one of the apartments rather than in the main hotel to be away from the noise. This was not of the standard expected of the rooms in the hotel from the website or photos. The carpets were stained and walls all needed re-painting. The shower head was broken and could not be fixed in a position other than straight down to the taps. The hairdryer must have been at least as old as me! We asked if it would be possible to change rooms, but the hotel was booked out. We were not offered an apology and were charged full price, which for what we wanted was not good value for money.
Breakfast was underwhelming.
I fully understand the difficulties presented by a large party for the hotel but our disappointing experience was not helped by the staff's general attitude. The hotel could also have made it known about the difference in standard between the hotel's rooms and its apartments, which were really more suited to a self-catering large family plus dog, than a couple.

Went here with a family of 12 for an evening meal. The staff were very attentive, accommodating and the service was excellent.

We were seating through in the conservatory which was nice and private. EVERYONE enjoyed there meal.

Bar menu prices are reasonable and the food is excellent.

I would definitely return here again and definitely recommend.

Stayed over new year 2016. Riverdale is a great place to stay. Staff are very friendly and attentive rooms are full of character and clean.

Food is out of this world and of very high quality. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We really enjoyed our short stay. The hotel was very welcoming and we had a lovely room overlooking the cricket pitch. We ate at the hotel, breakfasts were lovely, very filling and the evening meals were excellent. We will visit again in the future.

Once again the weather was kind to us and we could appreciate the lovely setting of the hotel. The reception staff were very helpful and welcoming and our room in the main house was very spacious with four poster bed and large bathroom. Very clean and bright with all usual equipment including ironing board. Food in the restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced. Breakfasts were well cooked and varied with plenty of choice. We didn't get time to try the swimming pool but it looked clean and inviting. Our only problem was our friends room was cold and despite trying, the staff seemed unable to fix the problem although they did put extra heaters in the room. A revisit looks very likely! Nice one thanks!
