We arrived around dusk (5ish). The view was stunning. The Hotel is in a great location overlooking Lake Hawea. The room (#10) was pretty basic but was warm and had a lovely view. The food was awesome and the staff were great - very friendly.

Only concern was that it was a bit noisy at night. We were not sure what was going on but a child, or children were running around the next door unit and it made a racket on the floorboards. That’s not the hotel’s fault though.

Having been for a scenic drive in and around the area we stopped for a drink only. the weather was superb so we were able to sit under cover outside and took in the surrounding views, a most relaxing stopover.

The place doesn't have Wi-Fi or cellphone service. The rooms were small and the bathroom was disgusting. By far the worst place I've stayed at in New Zealand. I'm a backpacker and I preferred to sleep in a campsite outside than there.

WWhen you are given the wifi code by the girl on the front desk who knows it hasn't worked all day, are they lying or just being disingenuous when they don't tell you of the problem? Same question when you go back because you can't get connected and they tell you turn your phone off and and back on again??? When they then tell you wifi in the whole area is down due to the wind, and you know that it is working at the petrol station round the corner, are they lying or being disingenuous? When another girl asks you if you've had a good night and you reply that all is good apart from the wifi which you needed to plan out your next day's agenda, is it good customer service or even polite to say "you'll just have to put it down to one of life's experiences"? The only member of staff who was polite and professional was the restaurant manageress, and the most positive aspect of the stay was the evening meal, which was excellent.
