Firstly, the hotel is still undergoing renovation but to be honest a few guys painting in the hallways did not bother us. The hotel is located in Richmond and provides a great location. We booked through the hotels website (email sign up) and received an excellent package - room, 3 course dinner and breakfast for £145. The hotel changed our dinner to lunch as we were out in the evening. The lounge was great and friendly staff. The rooms are a little tired but will be much better after the refurb. Overall very pleased with the deal we got and friendly staff

Have stayed at this hotel several times over last few years when meeting up with family who live nearby. It’s location is perfect at the very top of Richmond Hill and it has always been reasonably priced in comparison to other hotels of similar rating in the area. On this occasion however we seem to have picked a bad time ! When we arrived a few days ago the car park, which is always busy anyway, had several spaces taken up with work vehicles and building materials. On entering we were pleasantly surprised by the new look modern reception but the area directly off the reception leading to the rooms was still in the process of being renovated. Accessing any of the rooms involved stepping over workmen and trying to avoid wet paint, not ideal for either guest or worker. Apparently the hotel has recently changed hands, hence the refurb, which was much needed, but to expect guests to negotiate the work in progress each time they enter or exit seems unnecessarily discourteous. It would have been sensible to have closed even if just for a few days to complete the key areas. At the very least guests should have been notified and perhaps offered a slight discount for the inconvenience.
We had booked an executive room and were directed down to the basement to one of the first ones to be refurbished, the sign to the rooms still said ‘toilets’ which seems to indicate that a room had been created from former rest rooms. The room was nicely redecorated and the bathroom large and very pleasant but unfortunately there was no air conditioning just a fan which, in the heat, was only of any use if the window was also open. Unfortunately the window opened directly on to a wall with the car park above, this would be far from pleasant under any circumstances but given the current building works meant that there was much noise from early morning onwards. In addition the room was directly below reception so there was noise from overhead also.Clearly the new owners are keen to maximise space to increase revenue but to expect to charge a premium rate for a room in a such a poor location, lacking in basic facilities, is not acceptable, decoration only counts for so much.
We have not written this hotel off, the staff are pleasant, the location excellent and the refurb looks promising. It remains to be seen however whether the prices will increase when it is finished as there are other competing hotels nearby. We certainly would not again accept the room we were given on this occasion as a premium rate room, hopefully there will be nicer ones available.

Good location for Richmond park, But no lift, Under renovation, Smell of painting everywhere, dirty and old carpet in public area and room, dirty curtain, Cracked window frame, unsafe electric cabling on the corridor, Dirty and old extra bed (looks like 50 years old mattress.

Room Tip: No good room as I saw as carpet of room and public area is so old and dirty.

Stayed here last week for a family reunion and we were not surprised to be not overwhelmed by the place. We sort of knew that it would be' just about okay' because of the price. The reception was manned by a very nice man who pointed us in the direction of our room. My wife and I are not in the first flush, so to speak, but no help with luggage was offered and so we stumbled our own way to the room, not a good start. The room was acceptable for the price, just. It was one of the hottest days/nights of the year, we ran out of water and used one of the, tiny, bottles from the fridge, excuse me ,but this really should be complimentary, when we left the next morning, the very nice man on reception accepted my £3 without blinking. Suggest he takes a course in how to get people coming back, we certainly will not, that alone would be enough. We didn't trouble them for breakfast, couldn't bring myself to, but there are lovely places in the town at half the price.
