Looked for a quiet retreat for 2 adults and 2 dogs whilst our kitchen was being fitted. Lovely quaint annexe. Felt obliged to keep our dogs on lead as the first day our springer Saw a rabbit and decided to leave the garden/ shared forest. Lovely hospitality groceries and the couple who owns the annexe very hospitable and friendly. Would recommend.

“We truly struck 'heaven' at the Pine Cone.”

This is a 'Gem' of a location and the owners were so charming and couldn't have been more helpful. We have been to a great many self catering places over the last 30 years, but this property in our opinion must go to the very top of the class.
After our long journey from Brighton we received a lovely warm welcome and were able to easily settle into this perfectly cosy nest in the Highlands. The owners had very thoughtfully stocked the large fridge with more than enough essentials. The cleverly designed kitchenette was very well stocked which included cereals, milk, bread, butter, sugar, delicious home made jams, fruit juices etc etc, we needed for nothing. The dining table shares a panoramic view out onto a large rear garden with a very popular bird feeding station which is, in itself, first class entertainment, no need for day-time TV here. The garden grounds extend through a gate down into a large wooded area well equipped for many summer time outdoor activities for all ages.
There are magnificent woodland/forest walks right on the doorstep, our two young Jack Russels loved the freedom of exploring this new found wonderland.
It is so quiet and peaceful here that we often overslept in the large cosy bed. The large bedroom has huge fitted wardrobes with an excellent ensuite with walk-in shower, which my wife was overjoyed with!
Banchory is a short drive (20 min walk) where there are two supermarkets and lots of places to eat etc. but the owners Matti and Bill have a wealth of local knowledge and more than helpful with taking care of your needs or best places to visit.
Bearing in mind our weeks stay was in mid December the weather was generally very wintery with sharp frosts but this little Highland escape was always so warm and cosy and a real pleasure to come back to after a trudge on the hillsides or a drive in the mountains.
This enchanting property is perfect for couples, be they young, middle-aged or elderly and you can be assured of a memorably delightful stay, a true touch of heaven in the Highlands.

“Friendly cosy getaway”
Reviewed 9 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We arrived to a warm welcome from our hosts bill & matti and were then shown the lodge and gardens and left to ourselves to settle in,pity we didnt have a dog as Daisy the "dog of the house" loves to play with new friends and show them about ..
We found that our hosts had supplied tea coffee and milk, bread, jams and various other foodstuffs to get us started.
During our stay we enjoyed the little wood at the bottom of the garden complete with treehouse, hammock and dining table,.
There are forest walks, River Dee, and Banchory all within walking distance.
If you want a comfortable wee bolt hole to explore Deeside this is the place, and due to bill & matti thinking of every comfort possible..exceptional value for self catering due to local breakfast staples being supplied as standard...hope to return many times...
