It was a bank weekend, and i wanted to find something unique to stay at along the cornish coastline. Instead everything i was looking at was all booked out until i stumbled on good old Berry lane cottage.
Initially i had my doubts about the area and its location and wasn't too sure what i was going to get making this booking, but i went ahead and clicked..."IM GAME" .
What a delightful place! There's 2 huts available: the shepards hut, for a couple and the retreat which is a smaller version was just perfect for a single traveller. The room was cozy and had all that one would require. They even left me a homemade welcome cake!!
They also delivered a fresh basket every morning with a great selection of breakfast goodies and a good brew of ground coffee. Really the ideal way to wake up with the fresh country air that surrounds this location and the 2 lambs nibbling on the grass just a few paces away. Its an immersive experience where you forget about your gadgets and internet and blend into your surroundings, perfect for those looking for a digital detox. Although if you wanted internet, there was internet available although the reception wasn't strong near the huts but closer to the farmhouse.
With regards to restrooms, you had two options.
Option 1: the outdoor shower, perfect for those who like to be showering outside with the morning sunrise or afternoon sunset. With a long day trail blazing, to finish up my day showering outside with a cold lager and watching the sunset, this was pure bliss for me. Not sure about the winter season though?
Option 2: For those less adventurous, they also have the conventional toilet, shower, sink set up but this requires a short walk towards the farmhouse. In the evenings when its dark, you can navigate to the farmhouse restroom with the head torch and torch they've provided.
And finally i have to mention the hosts Peter and Val, they are absolute gems. Pleasant, helpful and always willing to give you advice about the surrounding area, which i have to say there is plenty of options! Camel trail for hiking or biking. Camel valley wine estate just down the hill and a little stroll away for wine enthusiast. Or the cornish coastline which isn't far to access by car, all dependant or how far you want to go.
I had a great experience and would recommend this place, especially considering they are reasonably priced too!!
