Definitely coming back to stay here, visited for the day and had a look around, lovely quaint friendly hotel, over looking the beach with a lovely landlady and very friendly dog, a comfy bar that looked like it would be just as welcome on a winters day as well as summer evening,

Stayed: April 2018, travelled with friends
Thank Tibbsie

We had a fabulous couple of days here, warm and friendly welcome, huge room with sea views and the food was excellent. Some reviews say that the hotel is dated and yes it is not a modern hotel but for us that was part of it's charm. We will return!

Having booked in a hotel in Clacton to find they had us only book for one night not 2,, we quickly had to find another hotel who take dogs, The Rock was told to us by friends who live in the area and had people stay there before.
From outside it looked massive, and as we entered was met and welcomed by the owner, a very nice lady indeed and was great to see her dog there too. We had a wonderful room, spotless, bed comfotable, nice little touches of decent had wash, and shower gel, shampoos, tea and coffee, tv, 100% better than the last hotel.
Break fast was fab, ... Don't understand the comment of this hotel should be brought up to date by LynnP as customer who quoted it TIRED??? The whole wonderfulness of the this hotel is its decor and all the things inside,!!
If we had wanted a so called MODERN hotel we could have chosen a premier inn, very informal and clinical.,,
Really nice cosy living room and bar area, and would defo stay here again. Outside is wonderful area for walking your dog, the sea, 5 mins walk to the high street, ideal place to nip off in the car to Walton or Clacton.

Room Tip: We had a twin on the first floor, spacious, spotless, comfortable, room 3.

Very welcoming but very tired hotel, needs to be brought up to date. Food was average as was breakfast, it's a shame as the location is great. The bedroom was not good ,old fashioned and the bed uncomfortable!!!

Stayed: June 2017

My sister and I and our dog recently had an overnight stay at the Rock Hotel.
Lovely position. Close to sea and shops.
We could not fault the staff and Jan is such a lovely lady.
Everyone was very helpful and friendly and they catered to my dietary requirements at breakfast without hesitation.
We look forward to going back.
