We did not find that 5 The Priory delivered the same experience as previous reviewers for a number of reasons - and so were disappointed. I wondered why there were no reviews posted since June.
Quiet - no - noise from the flat above was awful, scrapping around of furniture and every footstep audible, this could be as late as 11pm and start at 6:30am. Whilst this maybe just a particular family, we would have expected better sound insulation from when the building conversion was carried out. Currently the adjacent flat to that is playing music very loudly - it is 8:20 am, when others are sitting out trying to enjoy a peaceful breakfast in the sunshine.
WiFi /Internet...frequent problems with slow or nil response, on investigation we found three devices attached to the router which did not belong to us and were obviously using up all the bandwidth, this went on all week - presumably an adjacent flat has the Wifi password?
The flat had not been cleaned prior to arrival, and although the owner quickly arranged for the company to visit, and they did do a quick clean round....it is obvious on closer looking that the place has not had a proper clean in months.
I had not envisaged having to clean out the filter of the dishwasher before I could use it, and I had to straight away, as previous renters had left all 5 mugs with tea/coffee stains in, and plates with food debris on in the cupboards. How can you not wash up properly when there is an instant supply of very hot water and a dishwasher?
On the day following arrival, our first trip was to Dunelm, to buy pillows, as the four provided were flattened polyester lumps offering no support. Only 3 of these had pillow protectors on, and the state of the other pillow protectors ...yuk.
The oven, grill pan, hob and extractor fan need specialist cleaning.
The owner is not local, and the Cleaning Company are sadly not doing the job he employs them to do. The lady that came made excuses that they were very busy because it is peak holiday - indeed that's when you need even closer attention to detail and more cleaning because of the higher turnover of occupants. It isn't the fault of the owner that we had such a bad experience, and he did message to let him know of problems, but having had our settling in delayed, I just wanted to get on with the holiday, and not have people coming back in to clean - especially the very person who should be checking the quality of the service, because that is demonstrably not being done; and the state is beyond it being done when there are people here with their belongings. I just did my best with hot soapy water and a packet of anti-bacterial wipes, then poured a large glass of wine.
There isn't a shaver socket in the bathroom, so if you use an electric toothbrush or rechargeable shaver, remember to bring an adapter.
If you are up early and it is quiet you maybe lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a red squirrel running across the decking. There are also bats around at dusk.
We’ve been holidaying in the IOW at least twice a year for the last 20+ years. We’ve stayed in some great accommodation during this time, including staying in other units in The Priory. This time though it was just the two of us, we already like the location, so having seen the great reviews we chose this one bed apartment.
Everything from start to finish was perfect… including the weather.
Corresponding with Martin during the booking process couldn’t have been smoother with very professional and speedy replies. Obviously, he’s a good business man but also, he wants to get it right too. It’s this extra professional service (oh, and the super apartment) that tips this accommodation into a higher league.
I’m a bit of a stickler for cleanliness and good maintenance and with much credit to the cleaners and Martins high standards, the apartment was spotlessly clean and the best maintained accommodation we’ve stayed in on the IOW.
Views from the balcony are stupendous, but we already knew that and its one of the key features of the apartment, but the extra-large balcony and comfortable, good quality balcony table and chairs just add to the overall experience making it easy to relax and chill. It was difficult to tear ourselves away from the view after breakfast on the balcony and get out walking. The balcony is in full sun until about lunch time and partial sun until about 4pm. Extra note here about the freshly cleaned and waxed decking, which meant it wasn’t slippy when wet, and it was very much appreciated.
I’m not sure it comes across on the accommodation photos very well but this is a very comfortable and cosy apartment. Martin also provides a good range of information about the island including information on restaurants, attractions, bus routes and timetables and a range of leaflets on walks around the island… some of them were new to us so we ventured to new places, which was nice. If on the odd chance you get rain there’s a small selection of books, jigsaws and DVDs. Streaming was fine too with the good wifi signal.
We like to eat in more than out and I enjoy cooking evening meals as this is something that’s often rushed at home to fit in with busy lives so it was a pleasure to cook in a well-equipped kitchen with sharp knives.
There’s lots of storage space in the bedroom. Plenty plug sockets and mirrors so no trying to do your hair 6 ft away from a mirror. The bed was extremely comfortable. I would have liked an extra pillow but that’s personal preference and the only criticism I can find about our two week stay here.
Bravo Martin. We hope to return soon.
Easy walking distance from village, if you don't mind a hill, with many good eating places. Beautiful views from apartment (on ground floor). Plenty of parking spaces. Good public transport links. On the beach, great crab sandwiches at the Fisherman's cottage!
The apartment is excellent - exceptionally clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The view from the balcony is gorgeous overlooking the gardens to the sea. We really enjoyed our relaxing break and would definitely book again.
