Fern cottage was really lovely very well decorated and obviously well cared for. Had everything you could want. We didn't have a car, there is a bus that stupid just at the end of the road; but the walk through the woods into town was so nice we never used buses. I highly recommend staying here we absolutely loved it!

My wife and I stayed in Fern Cottage for 3 nights and loved it. The cottage is inviting, well furnished and in an excellent location and easy to find. The living room is cosy, spacious and well furnished with comfortable seating. The kitchen is well equipped, easy to use and has everything that is needed for cooking and having a Sainsbury´s up the road is very handy. The bedroom is spacious with a comfortable bed, sunny and beautifully furnished with plenty of storage space. The bathroom is modern and the shower excellent. The towels are fluffy and posh soaps and shampoos are provided. At the back is a small and neat yard with chairs and a table where one may sit on a hot day with a drink.
I would recommend Fern Cottage highly for location, comfort and atmosphere to anyone wishing to stay in Durham.

We spent a.week in Fern Cottage. We found Fern Cottage was ideal for our stay in Durham. Everything in the cottage was provided for our comfort . We loved walking into the city along the river. We also found it was vey easy to hop on a bus to get where ever we wanted to go. Durham is a special city- evensong in the Cathedral is wonderful. I would highly recommend both the cottage and the city.
We stayed a week at Fern Cottage, immediately felt at home and could have stayed for months! The galley kitchen is well equipped, the living room comfortable, the queen bedroom is luxuriously spacious and the bathroom decor simply fabulous. Had the weather been better (i.e. warmer and dryer) we would have enjoyed sitting in the outdoor space off the kitchen. As it was we were toasty warm inside throughout our stay, and in the UK that's not always the case.
The cottage is a 25-30 minute walk from the train station, and while it is mainly an uphill hike it is doable (we're in our mid-sixties and carried our backpacks). A grocery store is a few minutes walk away, and the town centre is 15 minutes (downhill going to town, up hill returning).
