We stayed at The Burnside with our 2 year old twins in a split level family room. The room was spacious and clean, but very warm.

The spa is gorgeous and the kids are allowed in the pool for most of the day. The pub onsite is cosy and comfy with a decent choice of kids and main meals. The Italian pizza was lovely! The staff in the pub were very welcoming and attentive.

Above the pub is a little cinema which shows a children’s film every night at 6pm, which provided a nice relaxing end to our busy day.

The hotel is only about a 5 minute walk from the centre of Windermere and is close to the Beatrix potter museum.

An absolute treat!

Stayed overnight. Lovely room, south facing, so full sushine, plus views over he Lake. Had room service. Excellent service. This is our 5th visit and Burnside has undergone changes over the years that have really improved the hotel. Would come again.

We have stayed in many hotels in the lake district and this is by far the smallest and darkest room! It was a struggle to get ready on an evening with only one lamp and the whole place needs an update. The room was also very very hot and the balcony door (smallest most pointless balcony ever) wouldn't lock! we had a lovely view of the car park too! The bathrooms are tired and not the cleanest! We were disappointed as the water suddenly turned brown in both our rooms, so we couldn't wash, brush our teeth or drink the water for 24 hours! luckily this was only in 2 of the rooms we were in, so we had 1 room that we could use, BUT reception were not helpful at all! We were told to run the water and that was it? Other than that, the meal in the restaurant was lovely, the waiters were very friendly, the circle table was great for a group of 6 of us! The spa was nice, but very loud with all the children in!. The man at the front was lovely and helpful, had a nice chat with him! Overall for the price, we wouldn't rush back.

Room tip: Ask not to be facing the car park!

I picked this hotel for its amenities and central location to Bowness town as a surprise for our Coral Wedding Anniversary - I wasn't disappointed! The hotel is up a hill so needs to be considered if you want to walk up and down from the town which is maybe 10 minutes (I don't walk fast!). There is a Spa, swimming pool, pool table, cinema, on site pub - all useful if it is not a pleasant day or you just want to relax. The hotel is old, which I like, clean and very tastefully decorated. Our room was at the front (No.103) with a huge 3 sided picture window offering stunning views - I could have sat there all day! There are a few steps up to the room and once inside, there are steps up in to the bathroom. The room is very large with a free standing double wardrobe, dressing table, chest of drawers, fridge, coffee & tea facilities, settee, four poster bed (best sleep I've had in ages!), side tables and a bucket chair in the window with plenty of space to move around. There is a lift tucked around the corner from reception. There are beautifully appointed lounging areas, bar and restaurant with an outside patio area and gardens. The staff in the restaurant are very professional, very friendly and welcoming. As for the food, well, beautifully presented and delicious (we had the A La Carte menu). As a vegetarian, I asked what they might recommend and their advice was spot on for my taste! Breakfast is well organised with plenty of choice - both hot and cold with additional special requests on offer. Reception staff are also very friendly and welcoming and the Concierge is very knowledgeable on the area. We encountered two issues - one was a stain on the sette which was cleaned straight away and the other was the cancellation of our Spa treatments due to the therapist unfortunately having a car accident but the staff did everything they could to re-schedule. The pub is small and cosy and offers food - the lads are also friendly and helpful. Note: the swimming pool does not have a lifeguard. When you leave the hotel take the path down through the side of the apartments leading to a double fronted gate rather than walk down the tarmac - it's a little hidden gem. Would I recommend this hotel - absolutely! Would I go back - most definitely,we can't wait!

Room tip: If you have mobility issues ensure the room you choose is easily accessible as there are steps up and down to some rooms

My wife and I stay for a one night break on August bank holiday weekend. We checked in a couple of hours early and although our room was ready we were free to use all the facilities. The hotel also has plenty of parking and it’s a great location too. In the centre but quiet. The spa was fabulous. Our room was immaculate. The staff were all a credit to the hotel. Would not hesitate in recommending to family and friends.
