We booked a deal through Travelzoo for one night for our anniversary. It was great, the staff were really friendly and welcoming, our room was very nice, and the food and drink were excellent. We had a really nice time thank you!

A great choice for a family break as it caters well for this market. Couples looking for luxury - not so sure. The lounges are very comfortable and there is an adult only dining room however this is not completely separated from the family dining area. Our main disappointment was with the room allocated as we felt it didn't quite hit the "deluxe" standard we expected. The room was large with a lovely view over Polruan. Sadly it was let down by the furniture which consisted of odd pieces that appeared to have come from a junk shop. Also, the carpet was laid in strips and looked like bits left over from the hall and stairs. Food on our first night was disappointing partly due to the fact that the set menu in our room was not the one on offer. All credit to the staff though as every effort was made to remedy the problem and an alternative main dish offered. We did feel however the food was good overall but it was quite expensive as were the drinks. The one thing that did stand out was the staff. Everyone was friendly, helpful and the customer service was very good.

First time visit to this characterful hotel with grandeur and loads of history. The food was excellent and whilst a family friendly hotel catered for couples by having separate area for non family guests in superb restaurant with candlelit tables.
The room and bathroom were excellent, very large with 2 sofas and loads of period furniture and the views over 3 of the 4 windows, superb. Very handy to visit Fowey as a shuttle bus ran from an adjacent car park. Staff very accommodating and the rates good value, recommended.

Room tip: Charles Hansen room has excellent views.

We stayed here on our first day in Cornwall. The hotel was first a mansion built by the Hanson family in 1889 and believed to be the inspiration for Toad Hall in Wind in the Willows. Even though is a wonderful family hotel, as a couple, we could use a separate dining room and the pool had different hours for kids and adults. Our room in the courtyard was large and comfortable. There is on-site parking - it is a little trek to the town centre but as close as we could find even in September. The food was excellent. We found a gem.

Room tip: We satyed in the courtyard. The main hotel rooms have a view of Fowey bay.

We were blessed with good weather which made the location of the hotel - high up overlooking Fowey wonderful - super for the cream tea we treated ourselves to on arrival (always cream first )

We had a large ground floor room overlooking the lawns. Bed was large and comfortable and there was a lovely bathroom- furniture was oddly out of proportion with the room

There is no bar but there is a drinks menu and you order and it is brought to you - we sat in front of the log fire with a g&t - lovely

Dinner was good - my lamb chops with their accompanying potatoes and peas - sounds ordinary but they were really good

Family (and dog) friendly hotel but the dining areas were separated which if you are a child free couple was nice

Parking on arrival was difficult- there was a large large much party in

Breakfast buffet style but had ‘from the kitchen’ options which we took - kippers and omelette Arnold Bennett - both of which were very good

Difficult to identify staff as no uniformity to a dress code and not all wore name badges (which were small) - also seemed to have a problem with teaspoons- had to ask every time!

Overall- A really enjoyable stay and would certainly recommend
