As a last minute booking for a very reasonable price, this hotel was ideal to break our journey back from the Hebrides, after being quoted a ludicrous £200 for a double room by Travelodge in Helensburgh. My partner was astounded as we pulled up to the building and she realised that this was where we were staying. It is full of character, and was obviously in its day a very grandiose building indeed, with stained glass, sweeping bannisters and all sorts of character.
The room and beds etc were clean and huge ! The ceiling was high, the bathroom very large indeed and the bed was king size. OK the view was nothing special , but this was don't forget, a budget deal (£75).
The owner was friendly, and explained that they were doing everything they could to restore this hotel to the best standards, the locals in the bar were friendly and in fact gave us quite a few useful tips about getting the best ferry prices for the next leg of our journey, what was where in town etc etc.
Beware, it is quite a walk (albeit along a lovely promenade) to Dunoon town centre itself, so if you're after picking up some food or supplies it's best to take the car. Free parking is provided at the front of the hotel.
As a family run business I'd be happy to give it my support again. better than a £200 Travelodge room in Helensburgh any day !
