All the staff are friendly and professional. This was our second visit and the service is consistently good. We ate at the hotel and the food was excellent. Service in the restaurant and again at breakfast the next morning was superb. Ok they were the same people on, but they should be commended for being so good at what they do. The last time we stayed, it was in a room overlooking the mariner and it was brilliant. This time we stayed in a normal double overlooking the carpark. No problem with noise or the room size. Our one and only gripe was with the hardness of the double bed. It was really too hard to be comfortable. Be aware when booking.

Room Tip: Double beds seem really hard. Go for a room with a king bed.

Only stayed for one night as a treat with the family but really enjoyed how the other half lives. Even if you live locally a night stay at the Salt House is a real treat, everything is really clean and altogether very pleasant experience. The highlight for me was the breakfast as there's nothing like a top breakfast to start the day. If you like art you'll also like the Salthouse it has a great selection dotted around. All in all nice hotel nice location and would recommend a stay to anyone.

Our stay was just for one Friday night to coincide with catching a show at The Regent as a birthday treat.

On arrival in the car park, we were greeted by a very helpful and friendly member of staff to take our bags and this proved to be our experience of all the staff we met. From check-in, to the lady who kindly booked us a taxi to the theatre, to the gentleman who brought us two pots of tea after we had checked out, we had excellent, unforced service from people who seemed genuinely pleased to be working at the Salthouse.

The room was spotless, with a great modern decor, and the fabulous view could only have been bettered if the sun had decided to shine!

The staff on arrival were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room was long and narrow with only one arm chair. Due to the narrowness of the room the flat-screen tv could not be placed at the foot of the bed and we therefore obtained stiff necks by craning to the right. We never did get the hang of the handbasin tap.

Dinner on the first evening was absolutely superb with excellent service. There was a loud, buzzing atmosphere which we enjoyed. Breakfast the next morning was a little different. We had an enormous wait. We had to ask for coffee whilst we were waiting. When the food arrived we had to ask for toast. When the toast came it was as if it had only been inside a toaster for a few seconds. The mushroom was dry and unappealing. And the fried bread was just awful. Not good. Breakfast on the second morning was a lot better - mainly because we opted to eat a little earlier and we decided not to have the full English. Sunday lunch was fantastic.

Overall, this is a lovely hotel in a great setting. We were blessed with warm sunshine and the waterfront, with its abundance of sailing craft of all shapes and sizes, made it easy for us to close our eyes and pretend we were in Monaco.

Dear Roy C,

Thank you for your review following your recent stay at the hotel.

I was pleased to read that you found the staff friendly and welcoming and I will ensure that this feedback is passed onto them. They do work very hard to ensure our guests are looked after.

On a sunny day, the harbour is a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by - its a lovely place to relax.

Please do come back and see us again.

We stayed in a loft room which was a really lovely big room with a huge bed. We were surprised it was on the first floor - having always assumed that 'loft' implied a room at the top of the building, but that didn't matter. It had a very good wet room, and was generally very comfortable - although the view was of a car park not the quay!
On Saturday morning we went to breakfast about 9.10 and had to wait for a table - fair enough no problem there - it was a busy time! We didn't wait long and were shown to our table and a glass of orange juice was poured for me - then the waiter disappeared and nothing else happened for about 20 minutes. There is no buffet for the continental breakfast items so we couldn't get anything for ourselves but in the end my husband went to the bar and found himself some juice. Our order was finally taken (Full English breakfast and coffee) but when it we eventually arrived after another long wait the coffee was stewed and there was no toast. It didn't feel like it had been cooked to order - the mushroom was quite dry and my egg was completely set. We were informed "oh no, if you wanted toast your should have asked. It's too late now". If someone had mentioned it we would have ordered toast!!! So we didn't get to use the jams and marmalade and breakfast took an hour. To be fair on Sunday we went at a quieter time and received better service but it was getting busy as we left and looked like people were starting to have to wait. It's not what I would expect for a breakfast that would cost £14.50 if it hadn't been included in our room rate. We decided not book into the restaurant for dinner and had a very nice meal in the Bistro on the Quay a few doors along.
All in all, this is a very nice hotel, quirkily decorated a very well located on the quay. It's a shame the breakfast set-up (with no buffet section) makes it so hard for the staff to offer good service when it is busy as they seemed to be personable and friendly when they had time. I'd recommend booking room only and getting breakfast at another establishment nearby.

Room Tip: Loft rooms are big but don't have a view of the waterfront.

Dear NikkiandRob,

Thank you for your recent review following your stay with us.

I was pleased to read that you enjoyed the stay overall and enjoyed the artwork and decoration of the hotel.

I have passed your feedback onto our General Manager with regards to breakfast. We do offer a Room Service breakfast so maybe next time try that, as it does make the stay that little bit extra special.

Kind regards,
Salthouse Harbour Hotel
