We booked the hotel as were drawn to the free evening meal. Sadly on the nights we stayed only one night had a menu we liked so had to eat out the other nights. The pork stew we did eat was delicious though and we sat up stairs in the lounge and enjoyed our meal.
We booked a standard double - we were offered an upgrade on arrival for an extra 20NOK a night but declined. The room (425) was adequate although being on a corner was quite noisy and lacked storage. It would have been useful even in the bedside tables had been drawers to store things in rather than a mirrored box. We never did figure out the heating in the room. We set the thermostat but still it was boiling hot each evening and we couldn't figure out what we assume were the buttons for the underfloor heating - both were set differently but seemed to do the same thing! The lights too were a bit strange and there didn't appear to be anyway to just have the bedside reading lights on but also had to have the hall light and corner lamp on! Staff were obliging in providing extra pillows when we asked at reception.
Breakfast offered a varied choice and set us up nicely for the day. Location wise we often popped back during the daytime and enjoyed a free drink from reception and used the toilet (public toilets seemed to be around 20NOK each!)
There were quite a few beggars outside the hotel and on one occasion they were sat in the galleried walkway immediately outside the hotels main door although didn't seem to stay there for long.
We would certainly return if we visited Oslo again.

Just spent three nights at this rather unusual hotel.
First the positives...very conveniently placed for the station...buses and teams stop very near the hotel and it is very easy to get around using the Oslo Pass. The staff are without exception very friendly. The include supper is quite adequate and a useful bonus in a very expensive city. The breakfast was more than adequate...a good start to the day.
Now the negatives...the black and red decor in the bedroom makes it very dark and the lighting is strange (why light underneath the bed?) and not very effective. We only had a shower but I undestand baths are available...next time we will ask for one! And it would be much better if some drawers were provided in the bedroom...

3 min walk from Oslo central, stayed in a Superior Double, 7th floor. Small room with a great balcony (not much use in Mars). Quiet and dark. No direct light from any lamps and with an interior in black and red, it was to dark. Even hard to read sitting by the little desk or for putting on make up in the morning. I think the same light architect has decorated the restaurant. Must be great on a Sunday morning after a hard night out but as a business traveller it was just frustrating. It was like living two days in a night club. Asked to get a kettle to my room and got one with a smile but no cup. Hot tea in the toothbrush glass? No Wi-Fi information without request. Ordinary hotel breakfast. Little for vegetarians and nearly nothing for vegans.

While the property is nice, with the loud music from a lounge outside, it was impossible to sleep. I would not recommend staying at this property on Saturday night. Can not comment on breakfast or dinner.

This was my second stay at the Clarion Folketeateret, and definitely won't be my last. The rooms are a little small, but perfectly acceptable for a couple of nights. The location is really good, very close to all attractions and the main train station. The restaurant offers a great selection of food and drinks, and the breakfast is amazing.
