We had no conception of what to expect as we made our way here. What we found marvellously exceeded expectations.

Descending the ornate staircase surrounded by the grandeur was grand. Moving through the outlets we were delighted with the choice.

Getting beer was another experience. Seeing the expert dispensing from barrels practically instantaneously filling the tankards was impressive.

Given the warm sunny summer's evening we enjoyed the fine fare in the vast gardens.

food was really good-however, we were part of a tour and it is definitely not worth going as a tour-they stuck us in an un air-conditioned room with no fans and no ventilation-was about 36 degrees in there which prevented the experience from being enjoyable.

Great beer and superb atmosphere. Highly recommended as one of the few value for money attractions in Salzburg.

Perfect place to end an afternoon walking around the old town. We arrived at 7pm which was peak time. We went on recommendation without reading about it first so it took us a while to figure it all out! Here’s how it works:

It’s a good idea to get a seat/table before going inside for beer and food.

For beer - pick up a mug (either 0.5L or 1L) and pay for it at the register, then wash the mug in the water fountain, then take it to the beer counter and the gentlemen working will fill it from the kegs.

For food - there are various food counters upstairs. One downstairs had seafood, inside many had meat selections, chips and wedges, pickled radish and other Austrian delicacies. There’s one counter with a range of different salads and another with a range of bread. Purchase whatever you like and take it back to your table to enjoy with your beer!

You can also bring your own food and drink into the beer garden. Had we known we may have brought in food but actually it was nice to have the Austrian cuisine! I found the salad bar to have a good range for vegetarian. Vegans might have more difficulty.

We sat there for hours playing cards, talking to the locals, soaking up the atmosphere.

This place has a nice charm and has both indoor and outdoor seating areas! It has a unique concept of taking a coupon, choose your own beer mug - it has two options 500 Ml (Big!) and 1 Ltr (Bigger!), then wash them under the taps and get them filled from the attendants.. We chose to be seated in the open area since it was summer! There are few food options available on the first floor and you can get your food to your tables. The beer was good but not exceedingly great; perhaps the ambience makes it taste and feel better! Must visit once experience though!
