Perfect place to end an afternoon walking around the old town. We arrived at 7pm which was peak time. We went on recommendation without reading about it first so it took us a while to figure it all out! Here’s how it works:
It’s a good idea to get a seat/table before going inside for beer and food.
For beer - pick up a mug (either 0.5L or 1L) and pay for it at the register, then wash the mug in the water fountain, then take it to the beer counter and the gentlemen working will fill it from the kegs.
For food - there are various food counters upstairs. One downstairs had seafood, inside many had meat selections, chips and wedges, pickled radish and other Austrian delicacies. There’s one counter with a range of different salads and another with a range of bread. Purchase whatever you like and take it back to your table to enjoy with your beer!
You can also bring your own food and drink into the beer garden. Had we known we may have brought in food but actually it was nice to have the Austrian cuisine! I found the salad bar to have a good range for vegetarian. Vegans might have more difficulty.
We sat there for hours playing cards, talking to the locals, soaking up the atmosphere.
