Visiting this restaurant may be one of the last things that you could do in Hallstatt. Unlike this restaurant’s reputation, members of staff were not professional and food was normal. Moreover, they take orders without a prior notice that they don’t accept all kinds of cards.

This cute little place was a nice place for a meal. However because they have very fresh menu choices, the availability of menu items may not be available. We didn’t find this out until after we had ordered drinks and the server told us over 1/2 the menu was not available and it was very early in the night (5:30 pm). It was a good problem because we knew everything was fresh. The food we did get was delicious!

we stayed 2 nights recently. as others have said, the view is the main draw. our room had a balcony with a fabulous view overlooking the lake and surrounding mountains. the hotel itself is old and creaky. the room is small and sparsely furnished, but quiet. the breakfast is marginal, but the restaurant is good.

This place is very much a gasthof. My wife and I arrived during lunch, and the restaurant was very busy. When I told them we had room reservation, they immediately made time for us. We had one of the five balcony rooms, and had an amazing view of the lake. The room was smaller than what we were used to, and the floor groaned with every step, but the bathroom was clean and modern and the room had air conditioning. The included decent breakfast was in a separate room for the guests. However, we enjoyed eating regular meals in the main restaurant as well. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I was able to pay with the room with a Mastercard, but they only accept cash in the restaurant. There is no elevator, so be prepared to climb some stairs if you have a balcony room. Overall an excellent place to stay.

Room tip: The choice five rooms have the balcony.

This building has been around since 1472 and used to be a brewery until WWI when all copper was confiscated for the war effort, then years later was reopened as a restaurant and inn with only 8 rooms. Creaky floors, antique furnishings, beamed ceilings. We are on the top floor, 50 steps up, and have a balcony that overlooks Lake Hallstatt and their fabulous outdoor restaurant below, lit by Chinese-type lanterns, swans floating by and small, quiet, electric boats touring the lake. We had a fabulous trout dinner at the restaurant the first night! MAKE SURE IF YOU WANT THIS HOTEL to NOT reserve for Simony....as they own BOTH!! Confusing!!!
