A historical museum built around archaelogical excavations showing how people lived hundreds of years ago in this town. Interesting details found in the excavations and instructive information boards on the walls. Nice café and good museum shop.

I read that someone said its like two museums in one and that is true! The historical part very interactive and kid friendly and while I was there on Turku Day, I enjoyed the art work they had in the other part. Maybe because I grew up in the US, but I found the museum quite small and that was a bit disappointing for me.

This place is two museums in one! Downstairs, there are medieval ruins and exhibits on historic Finland, and upstairs you'll find a modern art gallery, and a river runs right through the building, which makes for an amazing café in between the two museum areas!
The medieval ruins were re-discovered during excavations in 1995 and include a church and residential buildings with lots of information about the time period.
Upstairs in the contemporary art gallery, exhibitions and installations are constantly changing.
This one's well worth a visit!

In this museum you can see the ruins and things found in medieval Turku – and then see modern art, too. There is nice museum shop (I always find something to buy) and good cafe, too. Peaceful and nice place indeed.
