Normally when booking city breaks I like to find a hotel in the old town of whichever city I am visiting; on this occasion I could not find one I wanted and hence booked hotel Hellstens Malmgaard in Sodermalm - the next borough down; we were not disappointed.

The hotel is within 200 metres of the metro which takes no more than 10 minutes into the old town, however there are numerous interesting walking routes past bohemian art galleries and other shops of interest which takes about 20 minutes and is much more atmospheric.

Each room is individually decorated and whilst no space is wasted, was comfortable and excellent value in what can be an expensive city even on Londons standards. The breakfasts were great with a superb choice of bread, cheeses, cereals and yogurts (plus eggs and bacon if that's what you prefer) and the staff helpful to find you great fine dining experiences in the locality for the evening.

There is a comfortable lounge were we played scrabble in a couple of evenings enjoying a glass of wine or beer and there is unlimited good quality coffee or tea available throughout all hours of the day. The hotel is safe and secure and situated close to some lovely parks. We would not hesitate to recommend it.

Dear Pete,

Thank you for this lovely recommendation of our hotel! We are so happy to read that we were able to provide you with an experience that you usually only find in the old town of city’s; that has been one of our main goals. I do agree that we the neighborhood around us is a delight providing both great food, interesting shops and small art galleries; I am glad that you appreciated that! We are happy that the service met the high standards we set out to give and that you enjoyed the breakfast, lounge with free coffee and te and the atmosphere of the hotel.

We do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to us!

Kind Regards

Went with a group of eight people to stay at this hotel for a four day trip. We all stayed in the right wing when you stand in front of the building. There is another Hellsten's hotel in central Stockholm that has a restaurant and a sauna, this one doesn't have that. The tree outside is 246 years old (in 2016). The steps outside are not baggage friendly since it's all large cobblestone pathway. The breakfast room is in the basement. There is a lounge room off to the side of the reception. The rooms vary in size, we had four of them and only two were exacly the same. Two of the rooms had a really small bathroom, the one I was in had a large bathroom. The rooms have a twin bed (or two singles pushed together), bedside table on one side, lamps, small desk with a chair and a closet, the space around the bed was enough to get around the room but not more than that. No special place to put your bags so they were in the space around the bed. The flooring is unique, raw wood. There isn't a safe or a water heating station in the rooms either. There was a baggage storing option on our last day. Free wifi in all the rooms. The hotel is really close to the bus station and Zinkensdamm train station and getting around was easy. Would be cool to visit the other Hellsten's hotel just to get a comparison. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Suggest the building in the middle if you don't want to hear people walking through the gate.

old place with a lot of atmosphere. We had room 203 in the beginning which was very dark room with a very small toilette (we couldn't close the door). To heavy furniture in this room for my taste. We change to room 302 inch was lightly and very nice. But I always had problems with the light, for the makeup and dressed it was not enough. The beds are very comfortables. Calm and relaxing hotel. The breakfast is in the cave which is very unusual but it was not always places free in the morning. (Be careful about the big and nice stone when you want to go out from the hotel with high shoes - and rolling the suitcase) .
Maybe it's a good idea to do a little "walking place" without stones (the leaves and so on make it's very skippering. the personal very friendly.

Very nice and historic place. All up to expectations. Good to take a stroll along clean and open pathways around the hotel. Small but cosy breakfast room and good to sit outside with the coffe cup. Thanks.
