This place is otherworldly: serene, quiet, majestic. Simply mesmerizing. You wonder how such a beautiful place comes to existence. Crystal clear water, birds chirping, graceful swans. And most of the time you have the place for yourself. Although, considering it takes only 30-45 mins to complete the whole loop, NZD 18/person does seem a bit steep. Perhaps NZD <10 is more reasonable, but maybe there are other reasons to set it at 18. As a tourist, I’d recommend to visit this place at least once if you are in Rotorua and don’t mind with the entry fee. Overall I think it was worth it, but would not go there twice in 5-10 years if I have to pay the same price. Kani at the ticket counter is both insightful and friendly, offering personal tips about the place. Go ahead and ask her for some. You’ll love it. Thank you, Kani!

We loved our slow stroll around the reserve with lots of stops for photos. The Redwood are imposing and the water in the stream is so clear and looks so pure. The main spring is spectacular and the other are also interesting. I was a bit surprised about the price of $18 each just to walk around a reserve and we didn't even get a map to follow. Although we didn't need one and after spending 1.5 hours there I guess it works at as not much more than $10 per hour!!

Only 15-20 minutes from Rotorua, this was worth the drive to walk around the Springs for the morning. $18 entry fee but I was happy to pay. It was a great activity to walk around with my toddler. The redwoods are gorgeous and the Springs very scenic. An easy walk - take as little or as long to wander around. Fairly pram friendly.

An oasis of giant trees, sparkling clear springs. Quite simply breathtaking!
A forest reserve well worth the visit, day after day. Good paths, nothing strenous, jog or take a stroll.
Bottle home the spring water, marvel at the lush green, meander thru the Redwood Grove trees and delight in the dancing sands of the bubbling spring water.
As this is a late post, I have read there maybe entry charges now. At the time of our visit there was no charges.

On an early morning, with mist swirling around, we reached the lake and turned left towards instead of following the rest of the traffic towards the city centre. A good choice as we headed towards Hamurana Springs. This reserve used to have no entry fee but the owners now ask visitors to contribute towards the considerable cost of maintaining the paths and bridges. They have done a good job and the circular walk is an extremely pleasant one, combining a riverside stroll, a wonderful walk through a large grove of magnificent Californian redwoods, many sightings of birds, both on the water and in the bush and finally fabulous views of the Hamurana Spring itself with its stunning clear turquoise green waters. A real treat as the mists lifted and we had the most exquisite, peaceful stroll in a another tranquil piece of Aotearoa. Next stop, just a few kilometres away at Okere Falls. Combine the two for a great day-trip!
