one of the best holiday hotels I've stayed at,.excellent cuisine, service has always kept promises, hotel located a bit on the calm and boring area, but a lot has happened in the hotel: themed evenings, sporting activities, disco, etc.Generally - I recommend it

Stayed at this hotel for 1 week at the end of July 2018. This hotel is marketed as a 5 star luxury hotel but truly only lived up to this standard when it came to the food. As a starting point this hotel should only be targeted towards French people. The people in the reception barely speaks any English and the animation team does everything in French. When I asked them why they only speak French they said that the client base is 90% French and only 10% other nationalities. This is clearly not the case as at least 40% where from Poland. The standard rooms are really poor. The bathroom needs to be completely renovated and something needs to be done about all the ants running around everywhere. We had all inclusive but when we arrived, the minibar was completely empty. How can a hotel offer all inclusive to its clients and not even include mineral water in its offering? We had to drink its disgusting tap water. Beach was not that great, very rocky and you have to wear shoes in the water. Overall the food was really good, but the gala dinner was a joke. One chicken thigh was offered as a main course. This was really just a way for the hotel to save money on its guests. The buffet food was really good and well done for fresh orange juice for breakfast. The pools where okay, but really irritating to listen to the French girl in the animation team screaming in the microphone all day. This Hotel to me is only 3 star and is way to expensive for the money you pay. I would not recommend this hotel to any people that wants high standard and good value for money. You are probably much better off staying home unless you speak French and accept low quality.

Dear Pat, thank you for visiting Ostria Resort & Spa and for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that you were not really satisfied with our resort and can only apologize if your expectations were not fully met. We also regret your discomfort regarding our animation program which is arranged by the Tour Operators. Please allow us to mention that from July until mid-September there is also Polish Animation on site and guests are welcome to attend any program they like. Our receptionists are bilingual (English and French) and the entire staff is fully dedicated to making all our guests feel well attended. We thank you again for your review and certainly hope you might consider giving us another chance, should your travels bring you back to Crete.

Exellent location, very comfortable place with a lot of sports workshop organised ,the buffets were great , on quality and quantity with a lot of variety of food. special dinners were good in restaurants
the beach is easy to use, and the jet tour team did a great job in animation.

Room Tip: with the exception of beds (were too small for me , i prefer king size one) and Internet acces too slow, it was perfect

The food was probably the best thing out of the whole stay - huge selection from Greek traditional dishes to homemade pizza, everything tasted great. Our room was quite close to the sea and the main pool which was nice, everything including shops and restaurants is located in a short walking distance. A nice surprise were also the all-inclusive pancakes made in the sweets-house. The all-inclusive drinks selection is very nice, especially after 19:00. There is an adult-only bar and pool which looks very modern and nice. The rooms are cleaned daily, although the bedsheets were sometimes changed from cleaner to not-so-clean.

Now to the not really pleasant things; we found large quantities of pharaoh ants in our room and our things, although we did not keep any food in the room. Some spiders and other bugs are unavoidable. We also found out there was mold behind our beds. The water only went from very hot to not quite so hot - no cold water. The main problem was probably the Wi-Fi connection, which was almost non-existent. It worked for 5 minutes and then stopped working for an hour or worked very slowly - this was true especially for our room but also in the other parts of the complex. Not the greatest value for money room-wise.

There are many animations, activities and things to do in the hotel, BUT, they are mostly described or called for in FRENCH. This is quite annoying after some time, as guests which do not speak French tend to feel excluded. It's possible to speak English to some staff but most of them do not understand even the basic phrases. The theme nights were a little bit disorganised and not that entertaining.

The sea and the beach are quite clean and nice, there is enough sunbeds around the beach, which cannot be said about the sunbeds in the pool, so it's better to go to the pool early to get some places.

There was also a hidden "tax" we found out about before our departure, something about using the hotel's water/air/etc (the staff was not really able to explain) - came to about 28 EUR/7 days.

All in all, the stay was nice - the hotel looks new, fresh, with an urban vibe while still managing to keep the true Cretan image, the all-inclusive offer of food and drinks fulfils the expectations. It is very nice for shorter stays, the food is a highlight of every day, but the considerable number of negatives makes one question the value for money constantly.

Dear Tereza, thank you for reviewing your recent holiday in Ostria Resort & Spa. We are pleased to know that you were fond of our property and satisfied by our facilities and all-inclusive services. On the other hand, we are very sorry to hear of your room inconveniences. Although we follow a rigorous pest control on regular basis, ant invasions may still occur. Please accept our sincere apologies for this discomfort as well as for the poor WiFi. We hope you have mentioned these problems to our front desk as any such issue is rectified instantly by our Maintenance or Housekeeping departments once reported.
We also regret your discomfort regarding our animation being in French. As the majority of our guests are from Jet Tours France, our animation program is arranged by this Tour Operator. Still, all guests are welcome to attend, and our staff do their very best to make everyone feel welcome and well attended. Our apologies if this was not reflected during your stay.
Regarding the said tax, kindly allow us to mention, that it is a Stayover Tax imposed by the Greek law on all hotels since the beginning of this year. A relevant notice is displayed at the front desk, in four languages, to inform our guests.
Once again, please allow us to express our regret for the above inconveniences. We understand your disappointment but, yet, are happy that you were not fully prevented from enjoying the true image of our Cretan hospitality and culinary experience. Thank you for highlighting positively these aspects of your holiday.
We thank you again for staying with us and hope we have the pleasure of hosting you again in the future and turning your experience around.
