Non-smoking policy is not enforced. I was there for a week and every day my room started to smell of cigarette smoke from other areas at about 8pm.

Plumbing adequate but astonishingly noisy. When the person in the room next door first had a shower I had to check my own ensuite to make sure there wasn't a plumbing fault causing my own shower to run.

Air conditioning very noisy and inefficient.

General decor is very tired. Cracks in floor tiles all over the hotel. Cracked hand basin in bathroom. Cigarette burn on perspex shelf over basin. Smallest shower I have been in, plastic shower curtain which clings to you and doesn't stop the water getting onto the floor.

Inadequate electrical points for today's connected guest - only 2 in the whole (double) room, 1 of which is used for the TV. Wifi worked OK but different codes for every floor.

Do not be fooled by the reception area - the rooms look as though they haven't been refurbished in decades.

Friendly staff and fairly good location, plus low cost, simply do not make up for all these shortcomings. Generally a poor experience.

I stayed for three nights in October--a comfortable, very clean, and quiet room, with a view out to courtyards and gardens below. The room was cleaned and refurbished every day during my stay. The location is a non-tourist neighborhood with a great little park nearby with fountains and many restaurants. Every morning, I sat at an outdoor table at Beneti Hall and enjoyed cappuccino and pastry while watching the street come alive with people going to school and work. Relaxing and unpretentious, a real pleasure. And Maria at reception was wonderful, taking time to put together a route for me to make an easy and inexpensive trip to the archaeological site at Eleusis. And printing off my boarding passes gladly, no charge. From Semeli, it was an easy half-hour walk to Monastiraki market and the Acropolis. On a modest budget, I found Semeli an excellent choice for visiting Athens.

We only stayed here for one night after coming back from Santorini. The room was really nice and looked just like on the pictures. Really good value for the money! The staff at the reception, evening and morning, were excellent. Arriving close to midnight the lady at the reception managed to order a taxi for the early hours of the next morning.
I would not hesitate coming back here and stay for a bit longer.

I don't usually stay in hotels in Athens (I use apartments as they are better value) but the Semeli hotel exceeded my expectations because it is very quiet and also located in a very safe street (a large police station is directly opposite the hotel and the street closes to traffic at night).
The WiFi signal was fine in the 3rd floor and the receptionist is professional and reliable.
Bed and pillows are very comfortable.
The only slight downside is the 5 euro breakfast which is not inspiring (industrial products that I wouldn't want eat if they even paid me) but there is apparently a breakfast for 6 euros with authentic Greek items.

Hard to believe how good this hotel is for the price. Clean, attractive, comfortable room. Mary on reception was a delight. Only problem was wifi reception in the room, although it was fine in the lobby. Highly recommended.
