Really bad experience

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Jul 2024
This hotel really needs to change things around from management.
I stayed for two nights with my daughter, starting that the shower was draining the water out through the holes in the door and also it didn’t have where to put the soap or shampoo so the water out into the sink so I had to open the door which made the draining even worse .In addition, the tub did not have a curtain and when bathing there, the water was also draining away.

To make things even worse I had a pair of clothes of my daughter to get to the laundry. The first day I placed the shirt , pant and underwear in the laundry bag and filled out the paper , left it on top of the bed and left for city tour . Came back at night and the clothes was is the same place and my room was not cleaned . Called housekeeping and they said they
Were closed and that probably the housekeeper didn’t understand but they sent me towels . Next morning 8:50 am I called housekeeping and asked where was the best place to leave the laundry bag and the lady said had it to the housekeeper who is outside. I went outside handed the bag and the paper , the lady took the bag and said “no” to the paper . When I came back at night there was no laundry washed . I asked again the front desk and they didn’t know what to say. I left my part of my luggage for 3 days because I was going to another part of the island hoping that the when I came back they would’ve found my laundry bag. I came back for I night to leave back To my country and the guy was the same one I had spoken with and he had no answers. End of story the laundry got lost, no one not a manager or anybody could give an answer besides “what it something expensive?” One of the front desk asked . I had to leave at 3 am so there was no time to try to speak directly to a manager

The WiFi didn’t work either .

Stayed here for 2 nights. The room cleaning is not proper and we found multiple leftovers from previous guests (dirty towels, hair in shower and bath tub, different belongings)! The staff is very undertrained and did not give us the room we payed for so we had to go back down! They also closed the top pool for the full day when we were there because of a private event and entry was 85 euros for hotel guests (no notice before, even when checking in)! Do not bring kids here as this seems like a party hotel with people screaming in the hallways at all hours of the night and the pool at the top is no place for kids (if it’s open, probably not). Rooftop restaurant is very slow service and it seems like they are never expecting guests. Location is very off if you want to explore Athens so book something closer to Plaka or Monastriaki! Overpriced and unprofessional, stay away

This is a review to support others seen on this site but also a review that confirms that the comments in response from the General Manager - Maria Tzachani are false and are just a holding point without really taking action to tackle the problems encountered.

Here are the major findings of our stay in a junior suite on 17 and 18 July 2024. Classed as 5 star does not cover a lot of areas but in a letter given to us as a “welcome “ Maria said the following things :-

“We invite you to live the Wyndham Grand experience, indulge in our high quality service to the highest standards” and “ each one of us here will make every effort for you to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay”.

Our issues with the stay which were not dealt with properly and in a dismissive or incompetently way were :

- no feather pillows; just huge hard foam lumps
- no proper charging units for iPhones; no USB in newly renovated hotel
- reception person told us to go and buy a charging unit ; or we could leave it with them at reception to charge!!! Not ideal for a 2 day stay
-reception manager supported this as they had no units to give us;
- housekeeping showed us their available pillows of which there were no feather pillows;
- breakfast staff were non responsive and it needed multiple times to get spoons, cups and a variety of things;
- breakfast is a free for all and totally self service and no controls with staff wandering aimlessly around with no help to customers;
- the hotel if out of the centre of Athens and there are far better options closer to the centre .

Maria Tzachani - I don’t want or expect the standard response from you which we have seen for all previous complaints. Do something about it or stand aside. Unless something changes I will never stay in Wyndham property again .

Regards

Ian Clarke

Very nice upscale hotel with a few issues.
First, the area is not very nice especially at night. There is graffiti everywhere,which unfortunately is most of Athens, there are homeless people who will ask you for money or food. Ladies please be careful as my hubby and I saw men literally stopping and staring at women walking alone. Sometimes saying things. Just have a buddy system.
The rooms are well appointed however our shower was a falling hazard as water leaked from the bottom.
Maid service was horrible. They cleaned our room only 3 times out of 6 days, And left us no toilet paper, left dirty glasses, no towels but took the tip. I find that rude. We ended up just asking for towels and toilet paper because after being out all day and getting back at 4pm and your room still has not been cleaned is really unacceptable. We even had the sign on the door for maid service.
The restaurant is lovely. The view is beautiful! The morning breakfast is so plentiful and delicious. The staff is amazing always kind and with a happy Kalimera!!!
The pool is small and has no room. People sit on the floor with towels. Some people take the chairs and don’t come back. It is open from 11am to 7 pm. The water is not heated so it’s a cold plunge lol. On Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 pm to 1am there is a DJ playing music so you can watch or drink and take in the view of the Acropolis.
The hotel is about a 20 min walk from Monastariki.
The best restaurant is Mironi across the street but make sure to make reservations as it is packed daily!
Enjoy and don’t forget to order an Espresso Freddo! You will need it in the heat!

We stayed for 3 nights in a Nice suite that had a lovely view of the Acropolis. The room did seem hot though and we asked for the maintenance to look at air conditioning , we actually had to ask a few time, when he finally came to look he was very rude telling us there was no air vent in bedroom and that he would get a fan and abruptly walked out … the fan never came
The other thing about the room was, you are only allowed 2 coffee capsules for your stay , anymore and you got charged €1.5 !! Not very ‘5 star’
Breakfast is on9th floor with the lovely view all around but don’t bother as the food is all freezing cold , no one was taking any.
It was good to have the pool also on 9th floor but you were not allowed to use before 11am , it had a rope around it! And not very many beds or room to sit
The main bar on 9th floor felt like Fawlty Towers! The staff are all very nice but there is zero service, it is supposed to be table service as we asked a few times! They kept forgetting our drink order and many others in there kept going to bar to ask where their drinks were
Then on check out the guy at reception said you have a car parked and I said no we have a driver coming and he just kept saying no you have car park ,this went on for a couple of minutes and In the end I said I’m not paying for a car park and if you don’t believe me you can come out and meet our driver!!!
Last but not least… we were sitting waiting for our driver and a guy was at reception asking the same guy about the bed in his room and that he didn’t think it was very 5 star and the guy at reception said 5 star doesn’t apply to your room 😆

The Good : Nice hotel 3 maybe 4☆. Decent clean rooms very comfortable beds, friendly staff. The breakfast buffett on the 9th floor ( pool/lounge/resturant is by far the best I've ever seen. Large selection of breads, cheeses, meats, pasteries eggs,quich,potatoes bacon, fresh fruits yogurts , cereals, 2 coffee/cappuccino/expresso/mocha machines Plus a fabulous view of the surrounding areas and sea. Very close to Omonia Square area.
The Bad: A cockroaches, and the fact that it is located in a rather seedier dirtier part of town with tons of grafittie on almost every building.
The pool closes at 7 !! I find that rather idiotic given the fact that most tourists don't get back to the hotel until 6 or 7. Plus the fact that it doesn't get dark until almost 10pm and its plenty hot !
I did bring this up to the staff at front desk as well as the manager on 9th floor. They basically just dismissed it saying it was hotel policy. That there is one policy they really need to change. At least give your guests a chance to cool off and lounge around the pool for a couple hours after walking/ riding around all day. Be advised as well there are no shade areas nor adequate seating/lounging areas around the pool. The area is quite small.
In my future travels to Athens I will try and stay around or close to Plaka area or the beach.
