My wife and I enjoyed the second part of our honeymoon in Koh Samui a few weeks ago (May 25-June 3), and chose the Baywater Resort in Choeng Mon for our stay after much deliberation on which town to stay in on the island. What an excellent choice we made on all levels.

As with our hotel in Bangkok a few days previous, we received such a warm welcome from all staff at check-in and they continued to be friendly with their service faultless throughout our stay.

We had booked a Suite Deluxe Pool Access room, which was very nice indeed…spacious and clean and kept that way through our holiday. Bed was comfy, and we had a large rainfall style shower and good sized bathroom. We also had a small ‘long pool’ off our patio, which was shared with the adjoining room (although there was no one staying there), and was really refreshing after a day out in the sun.

The main pool and sun terrace was great too, also refreshing and always kept clean…there’s a decent amount of loungers and other large sofa-esque seats…all in all, a nice relaxing environment.

Location wise…the town is certainly one of the quieter ones on the island, albeit was low season, but it has plenty of good restaurants within a very short walk from the hotel. The beach is lovely and also only a 5 minute walk away…across the road and along a short path through the Sala Hotel grounds.

If you want to venture further afield, the hotel are always willing to help and will even arrange for their own shuttle bus to taxi you to your chosen destination. On top of this they run two or three services to Chaweng each day and the Fishermans Village market on a Friday evening.

The Baywater was a great choice for us, it had everything we needed from comfort to location…with the added bonus of it being quiet so we had quality relax time, but also if we wanted to escape elsewhere it was quite easy to do so.

A quick word on the staff…Supit, the hotel manager, was an absolute gentleman and welcomed us personally on our first day, which we thought was a very nice touch…and we equally shared further conversations during our stay. Special thanks go to his brilliant staff, to mention a few…Fo, Pic, Tarn, Arm, Ack on the front desk…Ying, Toay, Ging in the restaurant…and the guys with the shuttle/taxi, forgive me but I didn’t catch your names, but you were always so smily and happy with us :( …and I’m sure the many others that contributed towards our great stay. You were all so incredibly helpful, friendly and always made us feel so welcome.

Thank you to all at the Baywater for treating us so well on our honeymoon :)

We stayed here with friends for one week, having decided to go with their top room. The “pool villa” consists of a small lap pool outside with a bedroom and bathroom inside. Amazingly well presented on arrival, and the staff are impeccable. Every last person we spoke to couldn’t do enough to help up.

Fist, the positives! We loved our pool, we found we didn’t even need to go to the main pool because of it. Beds were super comfy and spacious. We enjoyed any of the food we got here. Mainly I can’t rate the staff highly enough! They were really fantastic and so accommodating. The free bottled water that was replenished every day in the room was a great addition and found the room had all the facilities we could want or need.

Now the negatives (and it makes me sad to say this because we did have a great time, there’s just one or two things that could push the hotel from “good” to “great!”. I’m unsure if it’s just the pool villas (or just ours) but we found it to be just the tiniest bit neglected. Walls inside the bedroom were dirty from previous guests/luggage rubbing up inside them. Pool was great but had some tiles missing, bottom needed a good scrub and some aelge around the edges. Walls outside in the pool area have been half repainted/bit of a rush job.

We also had a huge problem with the pool filter where we think it may have shut itself off and huge (and I mean HUGE, it was like a bug mass grave) amounts of bugs started dying in there. We literally could not swim in it. We did call reception about seeing an engineer but I think this got lost in translation and they sent the regular cleaners one day and a pool cleaner the next. Eventually we had to try manually reboot it ourselves (which was no easy task!) and that sorted it out.

Another small point is that I’m pretty sure my linen wasn’t changed for my whole stay as my douvet cover had the same hole in the corner the whole 7 days we were here.

Overall all of these things are quite minor (bar the pool) and would not stop me staying here again or recommending to a friend. We really did find the Baywater to be a great base for our travels, just some small adjustments could push it into real 4*+ accommodation.
