Meeting Dave (the owner) and learning he was originally a Black Country boy was a great start. Laura, Kayla the front end staff are just to die for, everything you want in customer care (service) is evident in excess, thank you ladies you were a joy!
The food was lovely, we’ve eaten in the very best restaurants and this was excellent - loved it from start to finish - thank you xxx

Having being cooped up for the last few months, my family decided to venture a little further afield. Expecting a lot of COVID restrictions we weren’t instructed to sign in which surprised me. 3 staff table serving drinks and food and one gent gave us a table and took a drinks order.

Service was fine and Kayleigh was a pleasant young girl, food was better than I expected. And for those 2 reasons we will likely return.

Food was served in the garden amongst Which I’m guessing were lively locals who were friendly. One way system in place for the toilets which resembles a weatherspoons toilet trip but obviously this was needed Because of restrictions. Toilets could have been cleaner especially for the current climate, walked through a bit of clutter in the lounge to get to get back to the garden and my wife had to go the long way round, again couldn’t be helped.

All in all we enjoyed the food and the pleasant service, will likely dine indoors next time, the kids were really happy with the play area though.

Hello Martin

Thank you for your review, indeed thanks for travelling over 65 miles to see us and taking the time to post your first ever review on Tripadvisor, brilliant, I hope you enjoy the Internet.

If I may pick up on a couple of points.

Firstly, regarding signing in, I do apologise that this might have been missed, we have collected hundreds and hundreds of contact details during this phase of reopening, this procedure is not mandatory but as a responsible business we are doing our very best to ensure the safety of our customers and staff.

It would have been good if you could have mentioned all the sanitiser stations and procedures we have in place, we have spent a considerable amount of money on such items, as I am sure you saw on your toilet visits there were stations aplenty and all guests are encouraged to use the facilities. I have never been to Weatherspoons so I cannot comment on this aspect of your review.

As for the toilet cleanliness, I can assure you our facilities are cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis, all sanitiser is replenished and the floors, toilets and urinals are cleaned. As you would have noticed the middle urinal was not in use as it is taped off to ensure social distancing takes place. I am not sure what you mean by clutter in the lounge.....gents did not exit this way as the signage clearly states the exit route from the toilets?

Food had to be served in the garden as the only space we could use was outdoors, hence the one way entry system for the toilets. I am pleased you thought the food was better than expected, I am not sure what you were expecting but as you will see from all our reviews on various platforms our reputation for food is outstanding.

Thanks for mentioning the locals, we are a very friendly bunch here on the coast, we have all stuck together during the lockdown and all businesses are being supported well by the community and we are really grateful.

Thanks for mentioning our staff, Kayla (not Kayleigh) is a lovely girl and does an outstanding job. The way in which we have to work at present is totally different to the norm, challenging and demanding, same work load as normal times but with 50% more effort.

In closing, thank you for your comments, thanks for choosing us as a venue and indeed for choosing us to post your only review on this platform.

Stay safe during these strange times.

Dave

This is the 2nd time that we have stayed in this jewel of a hotel. The staff are fabulous, friendly and can't do enough for you. Special mentions to Dave, Jason & Sheila.
The food is great, a lot of it sourced locally and far better than some of the city centre restaurants we have eaten in.
There is a lovely harbour here and Portsoy & Banff are close by.looking forward to our next visit.

along the coast worth a visit

We found this place a bit by accident one time when staying in whitehills.
Never fails to deliver a quality generous portions and good service.
We have started booking this place for my mums birthday meal every year.
Has a little playground for smaller kids or if my older 2 regress.
I would recommend the conservatory although I passed the indoor dining area when nipping to the toilet and this looks really nice as well.
