a little bit the heart of porto, like lissabon but everything is alittle bit closer and more cosy in Porto

Thank Xandinho

From every place you look, one word is enough to describe: beautiful. From the bridges, from Gaia, from Porto... Always breath taking.

Drove from Porto to Pinhao on a Sunday. The views are amazing and quite unique. The road from Rugua to Pinhao can be a little daring with all the switchbacks as you climb to over 800 meters, but it’s manageable.

We stopped for lunch at DOC, about 10 kilometers past Peso de Rugua, great location right on the river and amazing lunch (be advised that it is expensive).

Just returned from Emerald Cruise on Duoro. Very disappointing not what we hoped for. Only sailed for 1 day! Perhaps it was partly our fault for not doing more specific research on water levels but we were unaware that water levels on this river are so problematic. Having researched all the places we were to visit we found no direct mention of how our cruise experience could be seriously affected. No such information was made available until we arrived on board and then in an ad hoc manner which kept us thinking will we or won't we sail. Given that this appears to be a serious and frequent issue we felt that the company should have been more adequately prepared and provided a much more varied itinerary. There's a limit to how many port tasting sessions you can do!
We have no complaints about the staff ( although hardly saw the captain!) service and quality although cabins of all grades on the ship are very small so be prepared. Ours was down in steerage so we weren't expecting great views but felt sorry for those who had paid more only to find their views obstructed by ships on both sides.
Staff were most apologetic but were constantly saying it's not our fault we've done our best. That's as maybe it's the hierarchy we blame for having such a limited back up plan.
That said we had good weather and company so not all was bleak. However it did not fulfil our expectations and was not value for money it turned out to be a very expensive week on a floating hotel!
Our advice - too much of a risk to book particularly at this time of year!

The Douro is stunning -and superb to walk along at all different points of its route as well. We got such magical views and photographs in the Old City as we traversed it.
