A super house with lots of space and lots to do
the owners were very very helpful and kind
table tennis, table football badminton tennis basket ball and a child protected ( locked gate) swimming pool were the facilties ww enjoyed
we had a couple of great day trips - the beaches near esposende were superb - long spotless and safe. we also ate extremely well - plenty of super fish and at such reasonable prices
we also visted braga and porto - none of our day trips took more than an hour - in fact the beach was only 20 minutes away
the elevated outdoor dining space was fantastic - plenty shade ans super views
we normally go to the algarve but tried the north for a change - cant fault it and we are planning abtrip back next summer
Our extended family - six adults and four children aged 3 to 10 - had a memorable stay in Quinta De Agrela this summer.
From Portugal Holiday Villas rapidly answering our queries in the run up to our trip, to the welcome given to us by the property's owners, communication was excellent.
This 'manor' house is very large. All five bedrooms - with just one twin - are en suite, and the owners were also happy and able to rig-up smaller beds for smaller children. The kitchen, and combined sitting and dining room easily accommodate a party of any size. The pool and grounds are on a similar grand scale. The sensation is that of being the only residents in a very large guesthouse but with the added bonus of complete privacy.
The whole property is kept spotless and was also cleaned once for us mid-stay (we had a fortnight's break). Bed-linen and towels were provided. The owners were on-hand (via text and email) to rapidly answer any queries and offer advice. Any issues we met with were dealt with extremely promptly - for example, following a problem, a replacement washing machine was installed in 48 hours - with the minimum of fuss.
The property is located on the edge of a broad valley with fantastic views to hills in the east. As the sun rose over them, we woke to the sound of cockerels crowing and the odd dog barking. Few foreign tourists visit the area, which has a laid back feel. The valley provides part of the route for the Camino de Santiago from Barcelos to Ponte De Lima and both towns are worth a visit.
All the local people we met were hospitable and welcoming, despite our almost complete lack of Portuguese. The nearest shops are just a short drive away, so keeping a good stock of provisions in to make the most of the barbecue terrace overlooking the pool is a must.
One particular tip for a hot day if you do stay here: visit Adaúfe Beach on the Cávado River, about a 40 minute drive south east. Wonderful, safe river-swimming for all the family.
