Hotel clean and small. Staff did not speak much English but we all got by with gestures.
Room 204 had fantastic view out towards the harbour and cruise ships.
Everyone was friendly.Breakfast had great bread and varied slightly everyday. The lady who served breakfast was very sweet.
The hill into town is steep and takes effort. You will feel fit after a week.
Madeira was lovely and cheaper than Spain today and drink.
An enjoyable week

The hotel got 8.4 points at Booking - Which is a very nice rank. We did not find it appropriate. The hotel on the whole is nice, situated nicely above the sea with a nice view and a small parking lot. Breakfast was nice and they made sure to change the menu a little every morrning. The woman in charge the kitchen Izabel was a charming lady. The receptionist Micaela was exceptionally lovely but....
The room is far from being cozy. We had ants in the room couple of days. The floor was not cleaned properly . They had a fridge and a stove in the room but using is was an extra charge. They supplied a small soap as toilettaries - not a shampoo - nothing. You had a feeling of pettiness.

Room Tip: I feel sorry but cannot recommend

Probably room 202 has the best view over the bay from the balcony but the view from the front terrace was almost as good. Yes there is a hill to and from the town but only about 150-200 metres is really steep, my wife and I (both in our 70's) did not resort to taxis for the whole week but I imagine it might be different in mid-summer.
The only downside for Funchal in general is barking dogs. It seems that the owners on returning from work let their dogs onto their terraces where they bark at one another until the owners let them back in when they go to bed and guess what they do the same again in the morning when they wake up till they go to work!!!!
I didn't notice any A/C. WiFi was good. Continental breakfast was very good and plentiful with seconds of coffee and juice if required.

Room Tip: Probably 202 has the best Bay view.

I could not fault this place. We deliberately shied away from the more bustling but typically touristy places in the more popular Lido area, and opted for this place instead. It was the best value for money we could find and included a satisfactory continental breakfast for a very reasonable price. The hotel was immaculate, quaint, cosy with spectacular views across Funchal Bay. It is also well located being only around 10 minutes walk (all downhill naturally) to Old Town and the sea front. I must confess to us being too lazy to walk back up that hill but discovered that Taxi was only 4 or 5 Euros in any case. Furthermore , as a visitor to Funchal, you would be expecetd to take the ridiculous but hilariously fun toboggan ride at some point from Monte (the cable to which is on the waterfront in Old town). You will then discover that the toboggan only goes halfway down leaving most people to pay over the odds for a taxi ride back to the start point, however Residencial Pina is literally just off the same street at the end of thetoboggan run, around 15-20 minutes further down the hill. We choice to chance it and walk , but were amazed at the ease with which we found our hotel, whilst we were aware that others had paid upwards of 12Euros to return. Michaela the receptionist at the hotel was brilliant, meeting us at the entrance on first arrival and each day advising us of the weather and the best things to do on each day in consideration of this (Madeira has spectacular scenery but also dramatic weather and micro climates - therefore on the South of the island it can be sunny and warm yet 12 miles away on the North coast, windy, stormy and covered in clouds.) Michaela hjelped hugely with our planning and was always cheerful - in spite of my boring her daily with our adventures from the previous day. If and when we travel back to Madeira, staying at the residencial Pina is without a doubt, a pre-requisite. thoroughly reccomended!

Room Tip: room facing the pool or bay - for fantastic balcony views

We stayed at the Residential Pina for 7 wonderful days/nights and cannot fault the facilities or staff. The rooms were immaculate and cleaned daily, the staff couldn't do enough for us, one of our party had an accident and the staff made sure she was well looked after while resting for a day.

The hotel is situated quite a way up the steep hillside from the harbour and may be difficult for some who have difficulty with walking but the staff order taxis to pick up at the reception and they next to nothing in fares down to harbour front. The view from the poolside terrace is spectacular through the day and when there are big cruise liners in the harbour the view is even better at night. All in all the Residential Pina is great place to stay and I would definitely return to this lovely residence. Thank you Michala and all the staff.

Room Tip: Take a decent pair of walking shoes or travel down to the harbour/restaurants by taxi.
