“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay”

We stayed in Michaels apartment for a week. We were given bread, milk, jam, butter, wine, fruit, tea, coffee, sugar and cereals on our arrival which was a lovely gesture and also helped us with the essentials for the week. The apartment was really nice and stylish, great shower, felt like we were staying in a local area not full of tourists. Amazing views of the surrounding areas from the outdoor living room and balcony! Located up a steep hill and spiral staircase to the apartment, which we managed ok. Supermarkets close by and funchal town 5-10 min walk away. Michael was the perfect host, respecting our space yet always available to help with advice and guidance on the local area.

“Lovely week in Funchal”

The apartment is up quite a steep hill, fine for us, and not far from 2 small supermarkets, with all you need, and from the centre of Funchal itself. The apartment was clean and very well equipped including kitchen utensils, crockery etc, a beautiful bowl of fruit, tea, coffee, wine and other essentials. Fabulous big covered verandah with a wide view over the town, sea and mountains. Perfect for sipping a glass of wine and admiring the view after a day's sightseeing! The owner picked us up from the airport which was really helpful. We did a tour of the east of the island, which was excellent and included lunch, went up the cabelcar to the Botanical Gardens - superb - and took the bus to Palheiros gardens. The hop-on hop-off bus was also well worth it, taking us to a great viewpoint above the town and along the coast to Camara de Lobos. Lots to see in Funchal itself. Will have to come back to do some of the levada walks. An excellent apartment, finally, and one which I would have no hesitation in recommending.

“Spectaculair view, real Funchal, charming place.”

The view from open lounge is spectacular, all Funchal before eyes. The apartment is cosy, sunny, not big but with all this view you feels aerial. Inside is all what you need for leaving - food, cleaning, everything and even more.. Also Michael - the owner of the house - is very please and personal. He invite us with local food, fruit and vine. We stay there for 9 days and was very happy. The position is very closed to the centre of Funchal, and excellent for improving the body conditions. Thanks!!

“Icing on the Madeira Cake”

We have just spent a couple of weeks in Michael’s lovely apartment. The balcony has a wonderful view of the hills, rooftops and sea over which the sun rises and the myriad of lights twinkle at night time. The apartment is spotlessly clean, well stocked and comes with a generous welcome basket of your choice. Michael offers true hospitality and is always on hand to give recommendations regarding travel options and sights to see, at the same time respecting his guests’ privacy. It is also quiet – not always easy to find these days! As far as self-catering is concerned, we would visit the local restaurant (Cock & Bull) and buy a home-made dish to take away, and with a selection of wonderfully fresh Madeiran veg and potatoes from the local grocer, we dined like kings.

Best bits: view from balcony and the power shower.

“Most Enjoyable Holiday”

We stayed at Casa Pica Musica for 10 very enjoyable days. Michael picked us up from the airport and provided us with a variety of provisions at the apartment. He was very helpful always ready with useful information and to help if we needed it. A very comfortable apartment with amazing views to Funchal harbour and the surrounding district, which provided endless interest.

There is a private gate and a spiral stair to access the apartment. "Downtown Funchal' is a short but steep downhill walk where there is easy access to everything required. The bus service is excellent and most sightseeing can be accessed with local transport. The steep uphill walk back to the apartment can be challenging but we discovered a No15 bus which transported us a little way higher up the hill and we just had to walk down to the apartment.

At the end of our holiday Michael again transported us back to the airport making for a stress free departure.

We plan to return in the future.

Many thanks for your kind and thoughtful review, we certainly appreciate this and are always happy to hear that our guests holiday was a memorable one. Your tip for the bus is also welcome since several people have asked about this before and of course an independent opinion is always better. Hope we can welcome you back again sometime soon.
