We went late in the arvo of a weekday in April so there were not many people. We caught the bus up from the town. The palace itself was absolutely stunning from the outside. Like Disneyland! The inside was very ordinary. It had so much renovation done to it that it just didn’t feel ‘old’ anymore. We didn’t spend time looking around the gardens either. But definitely worth a visit just to admire the outside of the palace!

Pena Palace is amazing! An absolute must see! Travel from Lisbon and the lines to get in are worth the wait! This place was the highlight of our entire Portugal trip! DO NOT MISS THIS!

This place is really a must do, the building colors especially the outside views are breath taking.
Taking a tour is a good choice since it is difficult to access, the day tour to Sintra, Palacio de Pena, Cabo de Roca, Cascais and Estoril is a very good one.

Don’t include lunch in the tour, there are many places inexpensive with more quality than the one the tour includes paco del real is not a good choice.

You can visit the quinta de Regaleira at the lunch time, ask the tour guide fir the bus to leave you at the quinta de Regaleira, since the walk is going UP and very tiring so you can make better use of time ( walking down afterwards is easy).

This is the most popular palace in Sintra, alas, the lines to go inside the palace are extremely long, took 45min, and once inside, the line was just as long and there wasn’t much to see. I would strongly recommend not visiting the inside, but the gardens are beautiful and worth the visit. You can buy a pass just for the garden and the outside of the palace. The garden is huge and not very well marked, so give yourself time.

We traveled by train from Lisbon and the experience was worth the effort. You are able to see many artifacts, beautiful views and wonderful gardens around the facility. The on site cafe was reasonably priced and had decent food. The bus service to and from Sintra was good, busy and best done early.
Happy Canadians
