This was a really beautiful place to stay and also hold our wedding (mind you, I booked this without even seeing/visiting it prior). The staff were very accommodating, the rooms are HUGE (way bigger than your typical hotel room in Europe), and there are some really breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Breakfast is just OK though -- this is where they could make some big improvements. And the bar has potential but maybe they need some more music to draw people in? Room service was surprisingly fantastic, in particular the prawn dish, which was so amazing that I ordered it every single day! There is sufficient parking outside if you decide to drive although the parking lot is shared with the visitors to the castle. We definitely would like to return!

Magnificent setting with panoramic views. Decent restaurant and bar. The staff was warm and welcoming. Fernanda did a marvelous job helping to arrange day outings for us. Fabio and Joaquim were also very helpful.
Spacious rooms with a nice firm bed. Only issue was the air con- it had difficulty with the hot weather, thus fitful sleep per warmth of the room. Excellent breakfast buffet.

WE stayed at this glorious pousada on the last day of our first trip to Portugal. We will be back! The service was fully as memorable as the architecture and ambience. We had thought there was a pool, but the lack of one, despite the torrid weather, was no hardship, as we wandered the cool hallways, admiring displays of porcelain, pictures, carvings, and just absorbing the atmosphere of so much lived history.

The hotel is situated at the top of a hill and is right next to the castle, the views are stunning. The hotel is comfortable with a good standard of food and service. There are no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms but a minimally stocked mini-bar is available.

We spend a couple weekend without kids at the castle and it was great! Great because we could sleep in (no kids making noise in the morning, asking for water or at what time we would go for breakfast). Great even more because of the incredible location of the hotel on a large rock on the south-west of the Setubal peninsula. The rooms have windows with views into infinity, overlooking the ocean, Troia in the South, rolling hills of Arrabida. Good for day walks in the Arrabida Serra (although this is not all that well indicated, you really have to find your way yourself if you do not want to follow car roads). The hotel has a restaurant in its inner patio, wonderful setting, food okay (maybe unnecessarily pretentious in our view). No pool. And this was in the winter and it was windy and freezing. The cold (including in the room) was a real downturner; the staff gave us a mini electric bathroom heater which was struggling with the large size of the rooms, cold stone floors and walls. So our suggestion is to go there when it's warmer, after Easter. Or make sure you have proper and properly working heating in the room. Lot's of small restaurants in Palmela village, ten minutes walk.

Room Tip: Check the heating!
