Stayed here sadly for only one night-for our final night of a two week fly drive in Portugal

It was our best night by far
Stunning bedroom and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in
Fabulous spa and pools

Staff quietly in the background but fabulous attention should you need anything

I was so sad to leave and would always stay here when we return - which we will!

Thank you

This is beautiful restoration of an old mansion. The staff are helpful and knowledgable
The rooms are large and bright. The shower is the best anywhere.
The drinks at the bar are real and try the tomato juice, fresh made on the spot. .
It is fast taxi ride from downtown Lisbon.

We had such a good experience at this hotel. The location is perfect, the staff was very courteous and helpful, the historical architecture (inherited from the Romans) add a lot of charm... The room itself was simply awesome. Then, the icing on the cake was the breakfast. Can't go wrong with this one.

We were in Belém on a very pleasant business function and were booked into this very beautiful and stylish "resort" hotel. It is located on the main street of Belém, close by the iconic Tower of Belém. The #15 tram runs in front of the hotel, giving access to downtown Lisbon in 20-25 minutes. The centre of Belém, with the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and museums, is only a kilometre away. The hotel is actually the renovated quarters of the Governors of the Tower of Belém (hence its name). This would have been a plum job back in the days of discovery that made Portugal wealthy. But the site is even older than that! Incorporated into the front access of the hotel are remains of garum tanks from the Roman era. (If you wonder what is "garum", Google it and see. Suffice it to say, it might have been quite a fragrant spot back in the day!) What of the hotel itself? It was of high standard and style, beautifully incorporating the historic features. The reception rooms (sitting rooms, bar, etc) are nicely appointed and comfortable. One of these is the former chapel of the palacio, beautifully tiled with azulejo. The public areas were decorated with stunning art and my wife made it a point to check out all the different paintings, etc. Our room was well-appointed and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was beautifully tiled. Our room was in the front of the hotel and overlooked the street; rooms in the back of the hotel would have views towards the Tejo. A spa is also available. The hotel was convenient to several restaurants, including two excellent seafood restaurants down the street, which we sampled on separate nights. One night we had dinner in the Amphora restaurant in the hotel, and had a fine tasting menu of Portuguese-inspired dishes. Breakfast (in the same restaurant) was an excellent European style buffet with breads, meats and cheeses, fruits and yogurt, etc. Pasteis de Belém were also served. All in all, it is highly recommended, especially if you are lovers of "old stones", as we are!

I always held the belief that style and comfort were the main reasons one chose a hotel. Now I am certain that the main attraction for a beautiful stay in the company of our fellows, is ‘kindness’.
At the Palacio do Governado, ‘kindness was in abundance and shared so generously by ALL the managers and staff there.

My darling Lucy and I shared an amazing birthday weekend in a luscious suite (a free upgrade BTW).

One needed a degree to figure out how to work the television and the beds needed lessons in ‘staying stuck together’ but that gave the hotel character rather than annoyance.

Thank you ALL for such a lovely weekend!
