As first-time travellers to Lisbon there is no better way to get a sense of the people, food, drink and culture of Portugal. Duarte was a consummate host: very knowledgeable and fun to spend an afternoon with. He showed us places we would never have known about - and expanded our horizons. Thank you for a wonderful time - we will be back!!

We went on this tour with Duarte on a disappointingly rainy day in Lisbon. The upside was that everybody else cancelled so it was just the two of us. Duarte is charming and it’s a nice, relaxed way to spend a few hours exploring Lisbon. To be honest, there’s not a huge amount of walking but plenty of food and drink - as it should be!

I joined the Chiado tour as a solo traveller after a work conference. Duarte is an exceptional guide who made it easy as a solo. Food and venues were great and I met some fabulous people. Choose this tour - you won't regret it!! And special thank you Duarte for making sure I was looked after for the rest of my adventure in Lisbon!

Wow, just wow. I really enjoyed my first time in Lisbon, and I think that I can safely say that my time spent with Duarte on the walking food tour was the best 6.5 hours of my four and a half days in the city. Again, wow. What a great host, what a nice person to spend the time with, what a great personality suited for educating people about Lisbon and Portuguese food and wine. We began in the Time Out market, which with hindsight I thought was a great way to kick off a tour. Though loud, it offers such a broad selection and a lively atmosphere that it provides energy for starting - also, perhaps Duarte wanted to start there because of the time of day and his knowledge of the degree to which it would be busy and therefore difficult to get a table for our group. In any case, he chose plates that were both unusual (for Americans) as well as very local, and delicious. Wine was poured immediately and it was delicious! Duarte always had plenty of information about all the food and wine, but wasn't overbearing or too talkative. If you wanted more information, he was happily responsive. I'll shorten the full journey to summarize that we visited at least a half dozen places, had the best pastiches (sorry for my spelling!) and had a wonderful sit-down lunch where Duarte did a fabulous job of ensuring everyone got food that was respectful of their restrictions and preferences while also challenging everyone to eat beyond their boundaries. I felt good camaraderie with the other folks (formerly strangers) that were on the same food tour and a genuine sense of connection with Duarte - I think he really cares about the people of the world and enjoys sharing his homeland with them. We finished at a great wine bar with gorgeous barrels and a wine bottle roof and had a rose that was shockingly good. Be prepared to eat - come hungry. Be prepared to let your inhibitions go, at least somewhat. Don't be worried about the amount of walking, it's easy. I suggest planning a lot more walking afterwards, in fact. Bring cash, Duarte can't yet accept credit cards. Plan to tip - he's so worth it!

I really liked the "Tin shop" where you can taste 100's of tinned fish and all sorts.
The time out Market was incredible. So much food to choose from.
We tried lots of different wines. I learnt so much about Portuguese wines .
The restaurant on the roof, run by Nuns was amazing.
We brought back to the UK lots of beautiful ceramics from the pottery shop, and it was all so cheap.
Then we painted some Portuguese tiles in the Azulaijos tile factory in Azeitoa. Because of that I now do ceramics in the UK. The trip really did change my life! Thank you Filomena and Duarte. Xxxx
