We met Manuel who was the tour guide and driver for our day long tour of Sintra and Cascais. The van seated all 7 of us comfortably with Manuel attending to each of our questions and needs.
The tour started with a drive through Lisbon with Manuel explaining what we were seeing all, along the route to the first stop at the Pena Castle, then Sintra, then a beautiful scenic route to Cascais. Commentary was very interesting, educational and at
Times entertaining. I highly recommend this tour by Lisbon Riders.
We did the Sintra and Cascais day trip from Lisbon. Our driver and very helpful friendly guide Manuel picked us up at Praca da Figueira at 9am and from there we made our way to Sintra and visited the Pena Palace. He got our tickets for the group and guided us around this amazing castle. We were given a little free time and then we headed off to the town of Sintra for a lunch stop. He gave us many recommendations as to how we could spend the time and have something to eat. From there we made our way to the coast and visited Capo da Roca the most westerly point on mainland Portugal. We also visited a beautiful beach nearby. From there we went to Cascais and stopped for an ice cream and a general walk around. The whole day was amazing and the hours passed very quickly. Manuel was so kind, his driving was excellent on very challenging roads and he even took us all back to our hotels. Obrigado Manuel, you clearly enjoy your job and Lisbon Riders is a fantastic company as it offers such a personal service.
Our Lisbon Rider guide "Manuel" picked us up at exactly 9:00 AM at the statue of King João (John) and settled the six guests in a new comfortable minivan for a day in Sinatra, Cascais, and Cabo da Roca. He was a very safe and patient driver with the Sunday and Carnival heavy traffic. Manuel knew both Portuguese and European history, and was an excellent articulate story teller patiently answering all of our questions. We were in line at Pena Palace when it opened at 10:00 AM and had a very good tour. My personal favorite was the wall walk that gave us excellent views of the surrounding countryside. After the palace, we drove through the park and viewed lovely old homes. We stopped to learn about cork trees. We also went to central downtown Sinatra, but all six of us were disappointed in the crowds, tacky shops, and overpriced restaurants. We all enjoyed the town of Cascais much more as it is larger, not so congested, easier to walk through, and had a Santini's Ice Cream store which we all enjoyed. A stop at Cabo da Roca, which is the western most point in continental Europe, was also a hit. We booked our trip through Viator for $48.31 USD, although you could book directly through Lisbon Riders online.
Before booking my tour with Lisbon Riders, I did what many do today, read reviews on Lisbon Riders. I knew after reading many that I would not be disappointed with booking a tour to Sintra and Cascais. Nuno provided us with a rich history of Portugal and the places we visited during the day. The way the tour is planned out allows for you to have time to explore on your own and with the group. This tour is worth taking especially if you are in Portugal for a short time and want to visit sites outside of Lisbon.
Very good value for money. Our guide, Manuel, picked us up at Praca da Figueira - clean and comfortable people transporter. He commentated on places/things of interest throughout the trip and stopped if we wanted to take a closer look. Very informative and interesting day trip to Sintra, Pena Palace, Cabo da Roca and Cascais. Lunch stop at Sintra and time for a wander and ice cream at Cascais. Would highly recommend this tour company.
