I have to say Casa Amora is one of the nicest friendliest places I have stayed in. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble and all of the staff were delightful and so friendly. We were met by Juan who, over a welcoming glass of port, gave a whirlwind briefing on what to see and do over the next few days which was very useful.
Our room was the studio Vieira da Silva which is across a courtyard from the main guest house. It's a charming room with the advantage of a kitchenette with a fridge and microwave etc which we found very useful. The bed was large and very comfortable and the shower room worked well. The kitchen windows looks out to the courtyard were a small charming bar is situated. The other bedroom window looks over a small road. With the windows open you can get a bit of local noise but with them shut and the AC on it was very quiet.
Breakfast is a buffet and is served from 8:30 until 11 so perfect for those who do not like to get up early. Lots of local meats and cheeses, fresh bread, lovely marmalade and honey, fruit and cereal and Nita making beautiful cakes and pastries, fresh each day and, delivered to your table with a beaming smiles. You can use the courtyard and lounge area at any time of the day and there is an honesty bar and free port available as and when you wish.
The location is great being only a 5 minute walk to the Rato metro station and the local buses and the famous 27 tram just a 20 minute stroll towards Estrelle. There is very good local restaurant (Aguas Livres) 2 mins walk away and we were given free tickets to the Vieira da Silva Museum/Gallery by the adjacent park which is well worth a visit. Also on the doorstep is the Museo Da Agua which we left visiting until the last day. However I wish we had gone sooner as it is a wonderful cool, quiet and restful place indoors while from the roof you get a great view of downtown Lisbon which helps orientate where you are staying.
Juan was always available on the end of his mobile if there were any problems or if you needed any advice which was also a great comfort, it being our first trip to Lisbon. The city itself is just beautiful and the locals were all very friendly and helpful and having the Jacaranda trees in blossom was the icing on the cake. If we are lucky enough to come back to Lisbon we will certainly hope to stay again at Casa Amora as its just a great place to stay.More
