We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Solar Do Castelo. It was a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location - Sao Jorge Castle. The breakfast was exceptional as was the service. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Is a wonderful welcoming boutique hotel, step through front door into an incredible reception hall with views of the courtyard garden on the other side of contemporary glass doors.

All of staff were friendly and very welcoming.

The breakfast (served to midday) room has loads of character but at the same time is comfortable to relax in, as do the bedrooms.

We would recommend Solar do Castelo to anyone planning a visit to Lisbon.

Everyone should stay at the castle. It was the perfect location and was so romantic. The staff was very helpful and the room was beautiful. The courtyard and commons areas were lovely and a great place to relax.

This hotel is absolutely stunning. We arrived by mini bus transfer booked via Ryanair and because the hotel is difficult to reach by car / mini bus the hotel come down to meet you in a tuktuk and take you up the narrow streets. The welcome was so friendly and we were made to feel at home straight away. The bedrooms are individually decorated in a beautiful style. Ours had a lovely view over the courtyard. The communal areas are also very nice. Breakfast can be taken inside or outside and is a help yourself buffet. You really do not want for anything. This is also served from 07.30 - 12 noon. Throughout the rest of the day guests can help themselves to iced water, teas, coffee and there are often some cakes too. Should you prefer an alcoholic drink or cans / bottles of soft drinks you see yourself and there is an honesty box. We enjoyed very much spending time in the courtyard garden to rest from the sightseeing! The comfortable loungers and chairs make this very pleasant.
While the hotel is situated up next to the castle and the roads are steep in part it is still not very far to walk to the centre. Buses, trams and tuktuks are also available making it a great spot to stay. There are nice restaurants nearby. Oprego Original Portuguese Steak & Tapas restaurant is about a 10 minute walk away and offers amazing food and love Fados music on Thursday and Friday evenings. They serve great vegetarian food too! You must book ahead.

We travelled extensively through Portugal and Spain, and without question this was one of the absolute best, and most elegant hotels we had the pleasure to stay in. Situated on top of a high hill just next to the Castle of Sao Jorge in the heart of old Lisbon, it is only steps (although steep), or an inexpensive taxi ride away from the most popular districts, and there are many quaint restaurants and shops strewn all about the area close by. Walk in any direction and you will find yourself in one of the very different historic neighbourhoods of Lisbon, each one seeming to have a unique flair of their own. The staff and service at Solar do Castelo were, simply put, excellent. Cleanliness, and attention to detail, are paramount to us, and this hotel passes with flying colours. Service goes beyond the "norm" here. There is a friendliness that separates this hotel from most others. The breakfasts in the fabulously decorated common room were a delight, and yes, the peacocks in the morning are thrilling to wake up to, a unique experience. On our last morning, we had a very early flight so were up at 4:00 am. The night reception gentleman, a truly fine young man, ensured that we had coffee and breakfast before we left, even at the early hour. A wonderful experience, and at the Solar do Castelo, I cannot help believing this is repeated every day for many travellers. There is so much to talk about with this hotel, and so little space, so we'll just mention at last the complimentary decanter of port in the room as only one of the many amazing surprises.
