Description: Family-run since 1925 At the beginning of the last century, in the early days of the Republic, two old ladies "As Velhas" from the saloia region of Lisbon, settled in this place to serve homemade meals to the peasants who came to supply the city. In 1925 the modest 'Casa de Pasto' was improved and became a popular Restaurant, with the expansion and remodeling of the dining room. The new clients were the people of the neighborhood, Lisbon's castiços and the actors of the nearby theaters.

During our many travels, we research the city through our local friends for local restaurants, among other things. This search led us to this great restaurant, homey, friendly, authentic food, reasonably priced, one of these places that can and will become our natural choice for when we decide to go for a Portuguese meal. We went for dinner, very nice atmosphere, it was just right, enough people for good atmosphere but not too crowded, The owners are always there which gives the quality of service and the attention to details a different level because they are professionals and very friendly.

While in Lisbon, definitely it’s a must.

I stayed in Lisbon for 2 weeks and went 3 times to have dinner. Ordered the bife pimenta every time and it only got better. Also, I tried every single entree and every single plate was amazing. Highly recommend eating lunch or dinner there if you come visit Lisbon.

Beautiful gem in the heart of Lisbon. Welcoming atmosphere and fantastic food : pork with chestnuts melted in the mouth the steak my husband had was excellent and complementary port lovely to conclude. We felt we could have moved in! Don’t miss this authentic cuisine.

Brazilian friends living in Lisbon mentioned "As Velhas" as an opportunity for tasting authentic Portuguese cuisine in Lisbon. As it was at an walking distance from our hotel, we found "As Velhas" very easily at small "Rua Conceição da Glória". Welcoming waiters, an amazing high-spirited decor and the authentic Portuguese cuisine. The fish was delicious, but the "Arroz de Pato" (a duck risotto) tasted as microwaved and was dry on its top. Prices on the expensive side, but I would certainly come back on future trips to Lisbon. Bon Appétit!

We went to this restaurant because we were referred to them by our hotel. We ordered cod and sea bass, which actually were very good. Both meals had several bones and I stopped counting how many bones I pulled out of the thin sea bass. The bread, butter, and olives were on the table when we sat down but we had heard to check the price first, as those aren't generally free as in the United States. Our waiter clearly stated the price for each without us even asking, which was nice. We opted for the olives and were glad we did. Our waiter was polite but distant. The wine that he suggested was nice and it was almost the same price as the water. LOL. The cost was more than double that of other restaurants we visited with comparable food.
