Do not miss this. Go, sit down (if you are lucky to get a table), order arroz de marisco. Wait. Enjoy a steaming pot of fresh seafood rice. Fuss-free, authentic, delicious and very decently priced. My husband says this is one of the best he has tasted in Lisbon. And he’s from Lisbon.

We saw some negative comments on Tripadvisor about the service in Uma, so we braced ourselves. But we were pleasantly surprised. Reflecting on the snarky comments: (a) why would you expect everyone to speak English; (b) ordering is straightforward and easy, just point at “arroz de marisco”; (c) if you have bothered to track down Uma, why order anything but the arroz de marisco; (d) waiting is actually a good thing because they are making the rice fresh on your order (as opposed to one of the trendy places in LX Factory where the arroz de polvo was pre-cooked and sitting in the fridge); (e) yes, I admit that old Senhor José is economical with his chirpiness while waiting tables (but we did get a smile) and not a polyglot, but the other folks are friendly enough.

All in all, definitely a must-go for arroz de marisco in Lisbon.

The reviews about the service are true: you won't get your food with a smile or in English. While that doesn't make my dining experience, I was annoyed that 3 parties who arrived after us were served before me.

The worst part about the food coming about 25 minutes after we ordered was that it tasted like it was made with more salt than you'd eat in a month. Imagine puting 10 packets of ramen powder into 1 cup. We could tell from the faces of other guests around us that it tasted much saltier than it should have. I only ate the shellfish to get my money's worth.

Unfortunately this place also attracts a lot of foreigners who give the place undeserving credibility.

We were the second to arrive at 7pm. Take note that there are only 2 old guys working the restaurant, so be patient! Neither of them speak English, so get your portuguese phrasebook in hand. The seafood mixed rice is a really good deal at 10 euros per person, and the pork and clams are good too. Make sure to come early or be waiting 40 minutes for your food. (They don't have a very good system)

It was an experience, really... but not a good one.
White bright lights, tables so close to each other that elbows are touching, very rude and impolite service (the kind that make you feel sorry to be there)... what else to add...
The food (the only dish seafood rice) was ok, not amazing. Clearly not justifying to go through the rest for it.
Some of our neighbor ordered something else than seafood rice and we felt sorry for him (frozen pizza would look better).
Overall: Avoid this place. Many much better restaurants all around.

Definitely an experience. The place is very tiny (better if you book a table, we had our hotel do it for us) and traditional. The food is presented in a pot, like your grandma would do at home probably, but it's delicious. We had arroz de mariscos: it was simple, tasty, messy to eat but worth all the diffiuclty in opening the fish :) a must go place for all those who want to see the old Lisbon.
