It didn't sound the most exciting place to go but I'm glad I was pursuaded. Kids (early teens) both enjoyed it as there are lots of interactive displays. Just remember to pick up a ticket from reception so you can 'play' with all the installations and view your creations online later. The lower ground floor included a section of King Dinas's wall and was the best bit in my view. We spent an hour there which felt about right. And all for free!

So after a few weeks in the Portugal trip I realise that museums in this country are not that amazing. This museum bring free we had very little hopes. But we were wrong.

The building is awesome, the collection extensive and the way it is set up is really cool.

Spend a decent amount of time here and learned a lot about coins, minting, presses and notes.

Would advise anyone to go. Especially since its 43 degrees at the moment

This museum has a lot of interesting and well presented exhibits. There are also many interactive activities which our children enjoyed. Plus it's free, and the building it is in is interesting itself.

Had a really good surprise when going in this museum. You don’t pay to go in but if you bring a backpack they will ask you to leave it in some lockers that they have available (you will have to use 1€ to lock but you will get this coin back)
A lot of interactive rooms, and some of the interactions you can actually see again when you get home using the website that they give you and using the code of your ticket.
There’s a lot of different notes from places around the world.
There’s a cafe at the top floor.
Toilets are very clean and there is a lift for people with disabilities
There’s a gold bar that you can lift that is surprisingly heavy for the size.
Overall a really good experience and it is surprising that you don’t pay for it.
Very close to other interesting places to see

This is a relatively new museum downtown Lisboa. It was a church up to mid 20th century, then it was bought y Banco de Portugal, transformed into a car park (...) and a few years ago transformed into an amazing space - Museu do Dinheiro.
First GREAT thing: entrance is free, although you must get a ticket, which will also allow you to be very active throughout the visit with plenty of very interesting interactive quizzes and other information.
The layout is quite modern, great lighting, interesting artifacts (coins, bills) with a bit of bilingual explanations (Portuguese + English).
And you can also visit a fragment of the oldest wall of Lisbon, dated 13th century, with some of the exhibits found during the works to adapt the church.
We (2 adults) spent about 90 minutes going though Museu do Dinheiro, and definitely recommend it to any visitor...especially if you have kids with you, as some of the activities are really great for them ...although adults will aslo enjoy them :).
