We had a fabulous time for in this hotel, spotlessly clean, beautiful room. The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, we will definitely be visiting here Again. Would definitely recommend hiring a car, although the hotel do have a free shuttle bus, which is brilliant, the staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. Breakfast was buffet style and was lovely.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a suite as we booked after September, brilliant, do recommend hiring a car

We booked out of season, and consequently got a suite. This was beautifully appointed and quiet. We'd probably call this a 4*+ in the UK. Overall really good hotel. Only two negatives:
1. There is no indoor swimming pool. There is a hydrotherapy pool, which was lovely. We swam in the outdoor pool in November - bearable - as we're British!
2. It is a few Kms out of Cascais hence the need for taxis.
Travel tips:
Take the train from Cascais into Lisbon (dead easy). 4.5 euros return.
We hired bicycles for free from one of three points in Cascais and cycled around the coast cyclepath to a great beach at Guincho?

Room Tip: Every room will be quiet as the whole hotel is surrounded by gardens. Overlooking the drive would inevitably see cars coming and going.

Really enjoyed our recent visit to Viva Marinha. Staff were very friendly and all of the staff we met at reception were very helpful and gave us good local information which really helped us to make the best of our stay.

The room was very spacious and cleaned every day to a high standard. The kitchenette was handy although the only thing we used was the fridge. It was well equipped for cooking and serving basic meals and also included a small mini bar. There was a small seating area in the room and a spacious balcony. Not a big thing but there were no mirrors in the room other than the bathroom, I found this very strange. The bathroom had a very good shower and was also very spacious.

We went to the restaurant just on the first evening, worth a try but there are lots of excellent restaurants in the town. The evening we were there they seemed a bit understaffed and service was slow but food was excellent.
The breakfast was very good, although as another reviewer said earlier, they could advertise that they offer extra items i.e. omelettes. It is worth getting breakfast as part of the package as we paid €15 each every morning. Was a great buffet with good selection of fruit, cereal, bread and pastries (really loved the custard tarts). They had cold meats and a small selection of hot food. They also had champagne so had to try a glass!!

Pool was a bit smaller than it looked in pictures but it was quiet in the hotel in October so this wasn’t a problem. It did rain a few of the days we were there so it would have been nice to have an indoor pool. Called to look at the spa but didn’t get a chance to use it. Beautiful grounds and very spacious and secure with lots of parking including an underground carpark. We got a taxi into Cascais every evening and cost around €7. It is too far to walk and we only had to wait 5mins when hotel booked for us. It was nice to be a bit out of the town as it is quiet and again grounds were lovely. Would recommend

We don't do hotels very often, preferring to self cater. However, we made an exception because of the excellent reviews. I had just had a few days in Barcelona in fairly dubious accommodation so Vivamarinha was virtual luxury to me-and, to be fair, it's a great hotel, extremely comfortable. However, it is a very strange mix of hotel versus self catering and, honestly, it doesn't work. It's neither nowt nor summat as we northerners might say in exasperation! Each hotel room (and they are beautiful rooms-very generous proportions) comes fully equipped with large fridge, plates, pots, pans crockery, hob and sink. So far so good. You are instructed that you must wash your own dishes and keep that area clean-but no washing up liquid or tea towels are provided! The dining table is coffee table height-too low to eat at comfortably with silly chairs that don't fit the table. If you happen to use the cassettes for the coffee machine beware! Each one is charged at €2:50! Quite steep-you might as well go down to the bar and have coffee there-especially as the machine makes a very indifferent cup of coffee! So, despite all the invitation to do a spot of self catering, they seem to make it difficult.
So, to the restaurant! Breakfast-excellent! Lots of choice and the food very good-scrambled egg that is soft and fluffy, not rubbery and inedible. Lunches-snack type dishes, are also good-the club sandwich is huge and you certainly don't need the cover of bread as well. Dinner? Very disappointing! We waited a whole HOUR before we were served any food at all! The whole meal lasted over two hours-we were almost drunk by the time any food arrived. The food was mixed-my starter of beef carpaccio was utterly flavourless and somehow quite watery? My husband's starter of squid ink pasta and prawns was very good. My steak was average-it was a steak, served on a bed of soggy chips-that was it! My husband had the octopus which was quite nice.
Tips for this hotel if you do decide to stay: do not take a car into Caiscais-book a place on the hotel shuttle bus (but get in early as places go very quickly); similarly if you are going to Lisbon, book the shuttle bus early and get the train from Caiscais or get a cab (€6); HIRE A BIKE from the hotel and head down to the sea where there is a fabulous, safe, cycle path that goes to some fascinating dunes and, in the opposite direction, all the way into Caiscais. In conclusion, the hotel is ok but personally I would stay in Caiscais next time where you can amble along, shop, take in a meal or just sit in a bar and watch the world go by.

Room Tip: We were in 251 and it was north facing.

Beautiful hotel, nice tranquil poolarea and a big, clean room. But the service was not that good - Ordered roomservice and the food was disappointing - ordered a ham and cheese sandwich and that was the only thing on it! For that price you would have expected more.
Went to the restaurant one evening - disappointed as well since they forgot if we had ordered or not and gave us the wrong food. Didn't go back a second evening - better go downtown to one of the restaurants there - better food, better service and inexpensive.
