A small mom-and-pop restaurant, nestled in the village of Mosteiros, Pizzeria Fantasia is a must if you are staying or passing thru Mosterios. Reservations are necessary, hours are limited, and take-away is not an option! The pizzas are delicious thin crust & wood fired (highly recommend the quattro formaggi & prosciutto pizza). The pastas and dessert were perfection as well. They have local wine at a reasonable price. Cost us 25 Euro per person (4 of us) for 2 apps, 4 pizzas, 1 pasta and two bottles of wine!! The daughter of the family serves at the restaurant & was so kind and helpful.

First off- you need reservations to eat here!! We happened to walk in during the day when they were cleaning, thinking we could just get a carry-out pizza (which they don't do, btw), and were able to make a reservation for two nights later. The restaurant is small- only 4 or 5 tables at the most- and they only do limited seatings each night. I think that they do this to ensure a high quality of service and food preparation. I think they only have lunch on Sundays; the hours on the nights that they are open are 7:30/8:00pm - 11:00. The service was on the slower-side, which is typical of the island in general, but the food was well worth the wait. We started with a delicious bruschetta appetizer, followed by two wood-fired pizzas. The dough was thin and perfect, and all of the flavors were out of this world. We also split a bottle of wine. There is a nice selection of local and Portuguese wines, all incredibly reasonably priced. They were out of the tiramisu (bummer), but the caramel apple dessert offered instead was great. Come with a big appetite and a little bit of patience, and you won't be disappointed. We liked it so much, we made a reservation for two nights later! Overall, I think this is the best dining bet in Mosteiros, and possibly the best pizza on the island. Btw, the restaurant is a definite mom-and-pop, run by an Italian mother, who cooks all the pastas and desserts, the father who mans the wood-fired oven, and the daughter manages the front of the restaurant and does all the serving. The atmosphere is cute and quaint! We can't wit to go back.

The most ocidental pizzeria in Europe, that's what they advertise. It's true, the pizzas they'r good as well as the pastas and the rest in general. Everything home made as real Italian mama would do. The only problem is that you need to book always before you go there otherwise they will not accept you, even if the restaurant is empty!! The atmosfere of the place feels like a little bit heavy sometimes and if you have children be aware that they'r not very welcome in the restaurant! All in all the food is good (really the best pizzas of São Miguel) but you need to be prepared for some unsual thing that might happen in that night! No take away pizzas!

To get to Pizzeria Fantasia you need to travel the length of Mosteiros along the main road until you arrive at the sea then double back following the road round to the left, travel two or three hundred metres and you will see the entrance on the left. There is a short drive to a parking area.
The restaurant has the appearance of a beach chalet, both inside and out, the interior is bright and sunny and the walls are decorated with a changing display of island art and photos.
This is very much a family run restaurant, Dad looks after the wood burning pizza oven, Mum cooks anything non pizza and the Daughter waits at the tables (and takes the photos on the walls).
The food is authentic Italian, the menu has a few starters, a large selection of pizzas, then pasta, meats and desert. There is a small well priced wine list.
Most people go there for the pizzas (including myself), the dough for the base is thin and tasty, the tomato sauce is savory but not overpowering and the mozzarella does what it is supposed to do, the other ingredients are up to you!
I have eaten the pasta there, just spaghetti with tomato sauce, it was perfect. As for desert I only ever eat the half baked chocolate cake, you know the sort of thing, individual, like a muffin served hot and all gooey in the middle.
You must book a table here, not because they are overly busy but because they want to know how many people are coming and when, (the reservations are spaced out so that the service runs smoothly). The service is paced and friendly, I have never felt rushed, during or after the meal.
