This is a lovely hotel especially for the price - the Algarve in November is generally cheap but this was especially good value. It's a genuine 4 star hotel - our room overlooked the river and was clean with pleasant balcony and very comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice, cooked and continental - I became addicted to the freshly squeezed orange juice machine. There's also a really good coffee machine at the entrance which is available all day.
As others have commented, the staff are so very friendly and helpful here - reception, waiting staff, cleaners and especially the staff in the rooftop bar. I'd also compliment all of the staff on their excellent English. The rooftop bar is very pleasant - plenty of sun loungers, beautiful infinity pool and the snack portions are substantial. We had a cheese and ham toastie one day and a tuna baguette another and both times had to split them between us. There is also the oddity of a historic 30 metre chimney from a former factory next to the hotel with a huge bird's nest (herons?) on top about 5 metres from the pool area which is cute.
The hotel is half way between Portimao centre (shops) and Praia de Rocha (beach, bars and restaurants) and there's an hourly shuttle at xx:30 going to the beach and xx:45 coming back. Alternatively Ubers are €4 and arrive within 3 minutes or it's a 15 minute walk. You can arrange tours via the hotel although we booked ours online - our favourite was the caves/dolphiin watch.
Overall this was a fantastic holiday and I'm so glad we found this lovely hotel. My two minor grumbles are: please heat the breakfast buffet plates so my food is still warm by the time I've finished; secondly the sliding glass partition separating the bathroom from the bedroom is impossible to move without clanging so if one of you goes to the bathroom in the night you always wake your partner. I don't know if this is fixable but it is annoying. These are very minor complaints - thanks for a great stay.
