We stayed at Villa Camaleao as a group of 12 family members and the villa was excellent. Steve and Janie met us as we dropped off our bags in the morning, and were helpful with suggestions of where to go for lunch etc. in town. They met us again when we arrived to check in at 4pm and showed us around the villa.
Villa Camaleao is beautiful. Only one bedroom is ensuite and a couple of rooms had to share a bathroom, but as we were a family group this wasn't a problem - although locks on the bathroom doors could be useful and some hooks to hang towels. No need to take your own hangers though - plenty available in each bedroom. The kitchen has everything you need and everything was spotlessly clean. I certainly didn't feel the need to wash anything before I used it (as I often have in other self-catering places). The pool and outside area were perfect. Lots of sunny and shady spots and plenty of different seating areas all around, so a bit of something for everyone. As well as the fridge/freezer in the kitchen, there's another large fridge outside and a smaller one at the bar area, so plenty of space for keeping drinks cold. The pool table, table tennis and table football also kept everyone entertained. The villa is in a lovely, peaceful area, so there is no noisy traffic or other disturbance, just the occasional dog barking. You truly feel you are living in the real Portugal.
There's a restaurant at the end of the road (about a five minute walk) which served excellent food, but is situated on the edge of the road, so not the most scenic view. We also walked up to the water park one day, which was only about 10 minutes away. We walked to Porches, but this was much further than the suggested 20 minutes - more like an hour and 20 (although we did get briefly lost on the way!). We didn't walk into Armacao De Pera as it seemed too far, but we used Prestige Days taxis the whole week as they were brilliant; friendly, reliable and a good price. They were always punctual and ready to help out with suggestions for places to go, etc. Armacao De Pera is a lovely resort. Not too big, but more than enough places to eat and drink out and the usual tourist type stalls along the main walkway in the evenings. The beach is beautiful with lots of space and good long walks, plenty of quieter areas but also the usual banana boat rides, paddle boards, jet skis, etc. Pedros bar on the beach is an excellent spot for a drink and unbelievably cheap considering it's location.
Steve and Janie popped in a couple of times to check everything was OK and gave us useful tips and information for going out and about. They felt more like long-lost friends than people we'd never met before and they were the perfect hosts/owners. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property.
Thank you Steve and Janie. We had the best time ever!
