De Historie is a must for anyone wanting to visit the World War 1 battlefields in Flanders. Perfectly tucked away in a little side street in Ieper, it's easy walking distance from the town's centre with its museums and restaurants, but it's beautifully peaceful and has free parking nearby.
The house is furnished and equipped to an amazing standard - everything is provided down to tea bags, filter coffee and everything from tea towels to bin liners. There's free wifi to keep the teenagers happy, a room with maps and leaflets to guide you to the sights and all the comforts of home. The decor is outstanding - different and quirky, tastefully and beautifully done. The owners, Jurgen and Heidi, will make sure that they are contactable the day you arrive and will help you navigate and then settle in. This holiday home simply could not be better, the only downside are the very steep stairs - typical of the houses of the area and the time - which may be difficult for people with mobility problems. In every other way this house is a winner.More
