Short break

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Jul 2018
I stayed at the Hotel Petit Noord in the Dutch town of Hoorn for three nights recently,
I have a double room for single occupancy, the room had plenty of space and the bathroom was en suite as is usually expected these days. The hotel has two restaurants attached to it one Chinese Madame Cheung and one Japanese: Soya the latter having an as much as you can eat menu although it does in fact allow you to have five items over five servings but only one of the fifth if you have a sweet. Breakfast wish is a serve yourself continental breakfast is taken in Madame Cheung’s.
The reception desk is interesting as behind it is bottles for bar service in Madam Cheung and in the reception area are table where you can sit and have a drink and snacks. There is a lift (elevator) that serves three floors, I was a little confused when I reached my floor as the exit doors are at the other side of the lift to the side you get in.
The hotel is situated on one of the main streets and is only three or four minutes’ walk from the railway station. There are plenty of restaurants in the town if you want to eat away from the hotel. If you want to walk to the harbour it is about twenty minutes’ walk but worth a look. The Dutch people of Hoorn like to go sailing judging by the number of yachts in the harbour. The town of Hoorn is situated on the Markermeer although part of the sea is called Hoornsche Hop, which has a pleasant walk along the embankment.
AS I mentioned earlier there are two restaurants and I ate in both I found them both acceptable although I did find the Singapore Sate in Madame Cheung a little chewy. The Soya was excellent I ate there on a Saturday night and it was quite busy, the chap on reception did recommend I book so I did this may be a point to consider for a Saturday.
All in all I found this hotel & its restaurants very acceptable as was the price to me.

This was my second stay at petit nord and was booked for me by a business contact due to location. The hotel is very close to Hoorn train station and is located close to the centre of town and around the local shops.

The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed a nice meal in the bar area which was very reasonably priced. The rooms have all essentials and are a very good size with twin beds, table, chairs, wardrobe and a good sized bathroom with shower. Beds were very comfortable and the tv did have some channels showing English speaking shows.

There is a more upmarket hotel nearby but around double the price. I think for the price and due to the location this was perfect for our needs as we wished to walk around the town and shops. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hoorn.

I have previously stayed at this hotel however it is the first time I have returned in a year. The hotel I am please to say continues to deliver. The check in was fast and efficient and the staff as always were very friendly. They all speak English, which was very helpful to us as we do not speak any Dutch!

The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable although they were a little soft for my liking and softer than I remember. There is a table and chairs as well as a desk so that you can do some work if you need to.

The bathroom too was spacious and the shower was very good though I wish it had a mixer tap instead of having to try and guess how much of the hot water tap and how much of the cold water tap that you need. The shower is over the bath tub, The bathroom also had a his and hers sink which is a nice touch.

The Wifi was poor this time and was very difficult to connect. A number of times it lost connection or would not connect at all. It was also slow at times and other times it was OK. It was not a problem before so may need looking at.

The breakfast was good value for money with a good continental selection in a nicely done dining room. We also had dinner on the night we arrived and opted for the lobby area where there are dining tables and table service. There was a special offer on the hot stones steak and fish if you ate in this area instead of the main restaurant, which was very good value for money. The Creme Brulee was disappointing however.

The hotel is located on the edge of Hoorn Old Town and a 3 minutes walk from the Railway Station with main connections to the Airport and Amsterdam. Check Out was a quick process again with friendly staff.

It was a nice stay and I would recommend it and I will stay here again the next time I am in the area.

Room tip: You probably want to be on the second floor as the first floor is above lobby/restaurant which at the weekend can get very lively!

We were looking for a hotel within walking distance of the railway station, this was quite close. The hotel is part of the town centre & close to shops, bars & restaurants. The hotel has a very good restaurant of its own which we ate at.
