History, views, and aquatic life. Something for the entire family. Museum provides a background of how war has affected the area, from when Napoleon had the fort built through its use by both the Dutch and Germans during World War 2. There are a number of artifacts from each phase, including the wing and pieces of cockpit from a Messerschmitt 109. Tour the fort from top to bottom. Be sure to climb the ramp through the outer wall to get a great view of the surrounding area. Take a break in the small cafe near the ticket booth. (There is a restaurant on the main floor, but it was closed). Then take a tour of the aquarium to see the local marine life, including the skeleton of the sperm whale. See if you can find the blue lobster.

It was interesting exploring the fort and the aquarium. However, it isn't a place that is value for your money. Something to do in Den Helder if you have a free day but wouldn't recommend heading there specifically for an outing.

Interesting museum. you learn a lot of the area and the fort during several wars. Also the aquarium with fish of the nortsea is nice. It is a pity that there is not so much interactive things to do for the kids.
Some area's of the museuem have restricted access for strawlers and disabled.

We were looking around and as everything was in Dutch , we thought it wasn't going to be very interesting to us. All of a sudden Marcel appeared and guided us through the entire fort. Explaining the history in detail and with such passion. We really enjoyed our visit to the Fort, thanks to Marcel
